What Precentage of Cast Should You Win??

What percentage of cast wins would you be happy with and realistically think a dog should be able to win. I realize that this may be better asked on a different KC board as they continue to hunt their dogs a lot longer most over here.

Throw out the first couple times you enter a dog to test the water. I am talking about once you think it is what it should be and you are going hunting to win.

What number would you be happy with and think a dog should perform at??
10%
20%
30%
40%
50% or more.

"IF" u done ur preparation with that dog. That dog should win 75-85% of cast entered in. Now if ur going to a hunt with ur fingers crossed then 25% or less.

Well you can sneak around stay away from the stiff competition and have a pretty good average or go straight at them and hunt against the best and see what you really have 55 To65 is pretty good if I had a top dog makin top 20 every year it should be 75 to80 I think is about all you can hope for if you figure in the factors like weather , tracking, condition , dry hole , or coon just not movin I think there is that 33 percent of the unknown if your not made of money and can't pay guides and handlers to go down early and hunt wed, thur, climatize the dog it's tuff to keep that average Out of town 50 to 55 percent at home 65 to 70 percent that's with an above average hound jmo

I'm gonna say win the cast 60% of the time is a good job. You all know sometimes a dog gets in a slump. Then comes back strong. So 6 out of 10 cast wins I would be happy with. 7 out of 10 is a way above average dog. . not many go 10 for 10..

Cast wins

I'm gunna say 30-35% is a purdy descent dog. At 33%, that's about 24 Nite Hunts to make Grand Nite Champion.

I have hunted with some of the most winning hounds ever born. I hunt the other KC and go to alot of the high dollar entry hunts. When people are spending alot of $ to enter their dog in a hunt they are going to bring there best. When you unsnapp 4 hounds that will bust a hole in the dark and tree coon its a coin toss. I have gotton on roles where I just can't hardly loose a cast but when you go to hunts where the best of the best is there your truly doin well to win 40%. In the $250 entry fee hunts I've entered mine in we have made one final 4 and the simi's in 2 others out of 4 we've entered. Its the hole accuracy question no one ever wants to speak the truth. I have hunted with one hound I would expect to win 70% of my cast with and that is smokin hotspot HE IS A FREAK, NOT A DOG A MACHINE. Won about $40,000 IN 6 months of runnin him in the other kc. People are not going to foul me I've been out of my backyard and seen the best go THERE ALL JUST DOGS. Once in a blue moon a buckwheat or hotspot is born.

My theory on coondogs is that the majority of them are streaky. If you can get on a hot streak with one at the right time and put a string of cast wins together, you will have something to brag to your grandkids about.
The problem is you will also have streaks where you cant win a cast to save your butt.
In my opinion most of the dogs at the big hunts are capable of winning, and are fairly equal in coon treeing ability, its just a matter of who is hot, or who gets the break.

Very true. You can get a hound to there peak YOU CAN'T KEEP THEM THERE FOR EVER. If you show up at a big hunt with your hound at there peak and catch breaks you got a chance.

I got to agree with Todd on this ,if you got the power on the end of your lead , and these boys seem to have some power .

Agree with elvis and Williams,Seems like awhile back I read somewhere you can expect to win 30% of cast entered.I,m not hauling a dog that can only win 30% of the time.Luck has alot do do with it,many times the worst dog in the cast that just does nothing and takes the least minus and backs the right dog on the right tree will beat a lot of good dogs.I,m expecting 7/10 and if it gets as low as 5/10 its time for more homework...

The 60 and 70% cast winners needa move over to the other kc and hunt for pickups and major cash if they are cleaning up like that. Im curious as wat ratio the wins are to guiding at local hunts. Its hardest to beat the guides dog out of the cast at them

i also read somewhere that it was 30%

if your hunting with 4 good dogs you only have a 25% chance of winning that night. But if its a local club with a two dog cast yep your chance just jumped up to 50%
