Yotes!

Several of my best spots seem to be gettin overrun with coyotes. I've ran them with dogs several times this winter and killed a few but there is plenty more! My question is, what do you think the dangers of runnin coon dogs at these spots is? Pretty risky? They howl nearly everytime a dog gets treed. I've never had them come in but a few times they kept getting closer. What're your opinions on running in these spots? I really worry about running a female by herself there. Or a pup expeccially. But I have hunted these spots for years and never had any serious problems.. But there seems to be a lot more this year.. So opinions?

This time of year through summer is the worst IMO...I think because they have pups and are protective...then later in the summer because mom is out with the pups and they are big enough to be dangerous too...

The last dog I hunted of my buddies got torn up a few times..once pretty good....actually the last hunt I had with him he was beat up by one...but not bad..he was a weird dog...sometimes he would chase them...others if he smelled or heard them he would run right into the truck or never leave when we cut him...

About the only thing that might help is a gun...couple rounds in the dirt to make noise...but check and abide by your laws....coon season is out here..I don't wanna be caught carrying a 22 and claiming "but officer its for coyotes".

Also heard green lighted collars scare them but I don't know...

How risky is it? Really depends on the yotes....I will tell you I worry more about them than the roads....had them circle a tree and sit on their butts barking and howling...had dogs attacked..had dogs chased..

Right or wrong we called interference on coyotes during a hunt this time last year....both our dogs were out tracking...mine came in with his tail between his legs...immediately "well gotta minus that dog..". I said "that's fine here comes yours keep your pencil out!". Then we heard the yotes yipping up the hollow behind them...he says "what do you wanna do?". Well...interference can be called for dogs in danger (7a)...let's delete their strike points and get the heck outta here! There was NO doubt what happened...our biggest complaint was we lost 15 minutes of hunt time and were having a good hunt lol..glad the dogs got back to us safely though...
