blueticks, registered by ukc as such. the gascon folks (abgha) do have standards and inspect and register dogs in their own registry which acts mainly as a stud file. if you find bluebooks from the '70's and back you see a lot more big dogs. they just fell out of favor over the years. if you look at gascon peds and go back far enough you see the same things you see in standard blue dog peds - grant, Vaughn, sugarcreek, jocassee, smokey river, ect. if you are wondering what the difference is with them and a standard blue they say a picture is worth a thousand words

dog on the left is a minisink/Cameron bred female weighing about 63lbs. the male on the right weighs 127 in hunting shape. he's 30+ inches at the shoulder, although I've never measured his height.

30 inches?! My MASTIFF is that big, and hes 200 lbs, and looks thin... I will get a pic of him and my Jake dog (25 1/2 inches tall) standing next to each other

Is a gascon a fast type dog or do they tend to be slower. I been researching them and the majestic hound. I think I would like to try one to just be different. Are they easy starters or late maturing

they are more the style of an old country coondog. track speed is on par with about anything else but they take longer locating. they are pretty accurate as a result. typically they don't kick dirt in your face and get deep fast, they hunt at a more moderate pace.

Gascon Hunt?

Jeff...when you say the Gascon Hunt is first weekend in March, do you mean Feb. 28-March 1 or is it March 7-8? Thanks

I just got a new pup with alot of gascon blood with French creek valley all over it. You don't see many titles in their peds from people I've spoke with but most are pleasure dogs from what I understand. But most say they can cold track like no other. I'm wondering if anyone has breed speed into these with any luck?

I have a Utchman / smokey river bred male that weighs 95lbs and is fast. I bred him to a primarly gascon Gyp ( old sugarcreek, Calloway, French valley creek ) and have a litter. The Gyp also weighs 95lbs. The pups are 4 1/2 weeks old today. The male is the better hound by far but the Gyp is good. I hope'n that she passes on her super massive mouth to at least some of the pups. Time will tell if this makes a good cross or not.

track speed of these dogs is on par with the average bluetick. they take longer to locate. they like to make sure. there have been a few that did well in nitehunts.
