Here were i live i say any thing under 25 degrees is a waist of time. Dont get me wrong i still go but its hard to find them moveing. I think its more about were you live. Those northern coons probably move good at 25 but they dont down here

I have treed coons on nights as cold as -7. it just depends on what the weather has been they eventually have to come down for a drink. When it is real cold they usually dont wander far from there dens though. We treed one tuesday night and it was only 11 degrees out.

cold nights

I believe we all tested our manhood and our dogs Nose power at one time or another.I myself had treed coon.on nights that you think they wouldn't move.and not fit for man or beast.but here I was and dog in hand to find out.you will get some good tracks but likely 2 maybe one good one,and the rest either fall tree on a den hole.or a long druged out track.to only den.and I found out that the scent will rise faster on colder nights.where as in warmer tempertures.it will linger longer for the hounds nose to keep up faster on the track.where as real cold nights the coon scent will rise faster, and making it more difficulty for the hound to keep on it.cause the scent will be pushed around bye the winds and there fourt.they be down winding or up winding the track.then lose it and pick it back up and finnaly finnish it.even tho if your dog can do this in the winter.still not make it the best condog in a hunt.but will a more acc.dog for hides.just depends on how the dog works moves.and slam that tree.but some dogs after the frost hits will miss more as the winter gets colder.so then they have to learn and ajust.

My measuring stick is 15 degrees. If my dog cannot tree a coon on the outside maybe every other night, then the hound probably doesn't have enough nose/brains to stay at my house. Now that being said, I don't judge them unless I'm hunting on bare ground, when there is snow on the ground their just seems to be too many variables to truly assess a dogs ability, (at least for me)

im by no means saying my dog wont tree coon when its below 25 what im saying is i just dont prefer to go theres nites when its bad cold and miserable out that makes for a more comfortable night to stay at home and cuddle up with the wife and spend my time in the woods when i prefer...my dog would love to go no matter what the weather is doing and maybe he would show me some coon im just talking about me!

we decided to go out last night when we started it was 23 and dropped off after that. the two older dogs fell treed on a den, we pulled them off of that tree they hit a track and treed one one the outside along a cut corn field and then put another in a whole.

It just depends on where you live. In Montana the coon run in subzero temps. Treed a coon in -7°. Probably could in colder weather but the temp to hunt depends on the handler, not the dog, in my case. I've never noticed a temp making any difference here, just weather conditions.

,,,,,,,,,,

I can sense it when the coon r running == do you ever notice how your dogs act when the weather is good for hunting == watch them on a bad night and on a good nt,

Around here, it has a lot to do with the spot you choose. Seems like the branch coons won't move much if it's 25* or less, but you can go 10 miles down the road and run marsh coons all night when temps are in the teens. But this time of year when coons are rutting, even the branch boars will move pretty well with temps in the teens.
