Squirrel hunting

Anyone use redbones for coon and squirrel? How'd you get it started on both? Just curious!

yep

I have a female that's both ways. 1st off a person needs to think about coon hunting vs competition hunting. Mine will tree squirrels at night sometimes. But the way this one came to do both was by her running loose, she started very young treeing squirrels so when season came in I started hunting her on them, she watches them in the timber and is very nice. The coonhunting part came after squirrel season. She picked it up just as easy as the squirrels. The upside is she is a very fun dog to hunt. The down side is smart dogs learn fast as to what to do to keep a squirrel from leaving the tree it's in. Squirrel hunting changes a dog but I really like mine.

What blood and do you ever breed her? Not much into comp. hunting, just do it for the pleasure.

Sounds like a line of dual purpose reds! I'm not into competition hunting yet, I just enjoy going out and hunting dogs! Wanna have something to hunt during the day and not just at night! Thanks for the feedback!

JD Rocky owned that pups mother Sue, and from what I heard Sue was a good squirrel dog too. I never tried her. lol Just about all tree dogs will get you into a squirrel dog if you take them.
