Sell vs. Sale

Sell (verb) - to give up, deliver or exchange for money
•People who move often sell unwanted items instead of packing them.

Sale (noun) - the act of selling; the work, department, etc. of selling
•After Christmas sales always bring in the bargain shoppers.


"Sale" is a NOUN meaning "the act of selling" Sale does not indicate any kind of action taking place

"Sell" is a VERB meaning to sell, or exchange something for money or other goods. Sell indicates that some type of action has or will take place.

Correct Examples:
I am going to sell my dog.
Are you going to sell your pup?
My dog is not for sale.
Is that dog for sale?
Wal-Mart has a sale on dog food.
I wish someone would sell me a good dog.
I have a good dog for sale.
My dog is not for sale at any price.
I'd sell this dog for a dollar.

INCORRECT Examples:
I want to sale my dog. NO
Is that dog box for sell? NO
I heard your dog is for sell. NO
Will you sale me that dog? NO
This tracking collar is for sell. NO

If you have a dog you want to get rid of in exchange for money, it is for "sale" and you will "sell" the dog just as soon as someone gives you the money.

Good gosh alive i have misused that word so many times i think i will be afraid to try using it again.

I think i will just say i have a dog i would like to trade for some money.lol.

Good job explaining the difference in sale and sell i didn't even think there was such a word as sell.lol.

No excuse in bread, lol. But how about bred versus breed, i.e., and noun versus verb? Gets confusinger when you throw in a modifier like "cross" i.e crossbred v crossbreed. Also, I know a man that was so fond of his dogs that he about had them INbred. He knew he needed to OUTcross but he felt so strong about his dogs that it was as hard as CROSSbreeding for him to do. When he finally did Breed his great bluetick line to another bluetick line he thought he would get a hyBRID. LOL Who alls wanting a registered crossbreed? or crossbred dog?

I've got a new one for you . There was a guy a here the other day that steaks his dogs out . Mine would be quite happy with this set up lol ...eating their steak & dragging the chain around free , happy & full . (probably wondering when I was bringing another steak to attach to the chain )
