Yea..Doug I think you may be right.

one of my buddies told me he thought that was it, but wasnt 100% sure.
Mister Matt ssgied up above us here has a nice hound that goes back to him about 5 times or more. Plus he goes back to so many old dogs you cant count um all. Houses chief, Banjo II and hillbilly Mac a few times.
Doesnt go back to any of these new hounds. He is truly OLD Blood.
Thats why I wanted to know. This dog is loaded with some foundation stock.
Folks should be running to his house now to breed to this dog.
We have line bred so many idiots its a wonder we can find a dog to tree a coon.
I talked with a guy that hunted at the winter classic and they saw 11 coon, saw 8 and I think one of the dogs minused out and two had minus and only one had points.
two more casts that had friends of mine on treed multiple multiple slicks.....
Thats just not right.
Anyway. I know you know the old dog stuff Doug so if you find out for sure if that cross is right, let me know. but I think you may be right.
You should see the pedigree on that dog doug. You would like it.

me too Doug.

pm ssgied on this post and give him your address. I am sure he would be glad to send you one. the dog will be 10 later in december I think.
It is the closest to real old blood I have found. You know I study this dog breeding business very closely and have found that the walker blood has been watered down because of the breeding to hot nosed treeing idiots that somehow made grand night champion and got bred to hundreds of times. If folks knew the real dogs behind some of these current studs they wouldnt breed to them.
If you watch this board long enough you will see some of these over priced $1,000.00 dollar and $500 dollar pups back up for sale at a year old for the same price or at a discount price and they arent even started. It drives me nuts to see a pup priced like that. Folks are flat out idiots for paying that. I dont care what they are out of. Its their business, I understand that, but my gosh what that cross is doing for the breed long term is sickning.

Everybody with a female is breeding their females and they have no clue what they are doing.

I see guys ask on the board " What to breed to" and I study their dogs pedigree and then I offer a suggestion based on what I have learned over the years about the reprouduction ability of some of the hounds behind the current hounds. Most never take my advice and they breed to who they were going to breed to all along and then you see the pups again for sale a year later for nothing. Why....they didnt do their homework. they dont know how to research. I make dozens of calls before I breed to an outside stud from my kennel and in lots of cases, I have stricken some major major studs from my breeding list because I know what is behind them. That DNA comes back through. It always does. If their is a slick treeing idiot behind a truck winner or a junk runner at 6 years old behind a world hunt winner, I am not going to breed to him for love of money. It will come back through every single time somewhere. Most of the time multiple times.

The number one reproducing dog by percentage that has ever been and probably ever will be has thrown more slick treeing dogs than the next 10 behind him combined and folks dont know why....You know why he threw that? because there are multiple half bro/half sister crosses behind him and to top that off, there are at least 4 slick treeing idiots in that pedigree that got bred to their half brother or half sister.
It doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure that someday there is going to be a stud that is a product of all that poor breeding decision making that will produce slick treeing idiots by the hundreds.

It is the breeding. You have to be smart and make informed decisions before you make a cross. I know you are like me and plan some breedings for years before you make them. Thats why when I make a cross, I expect them to be running and treeing real live raccoons by 7 months old and not find them at a trade day at two years old for $100.

I dont know if this dog can reproduce, but I know this, if pedigrees mean anything this dog is loaded like dynamite with sound foundation stock that doesnt even show on most dogs pedigrees today.
I think he has old Johnsons banjo in the 8th generation like 7 or 8 times.

take a look at the pedigree and tell me what you think. I am going to give him a shot just on the chance that the pedigree says it will.

I dont know how this dog has stayed undiscovered

I'd sure like to see a pedigree on that dog your talking about.

Been talking with some good dog men lately and we all have the same conclusion, and the question is, "where can we go to get what we had back when we had real coondogs?".

The search continues...
