Yes it was 50% I would do it again if I was going to keep them all so I could cull hard and wanted stock for down the road breeding

it done with success... But one thing for sure is.... YOU BETTER KNOW YOUR STOCK, all the flaws and all the weaknesses and be prepared if they manifest.. Because brother IF they are there, they will raise their ugly heads.... Inbreeding is the sure fire test to see if you got good stock or not... I don't reccommend it to the inexperienced breeder... JMHO...

I have never claimed to be a breeder but have seen it done with really good results

I have done uncle x niece and half brother X half sister and had it work really well

I would take a good hard look at my female and be absolutely sure that her sires side of her genetics is the one I wanted to double up on.....the bad traits seem easier to double up on than the good

when I was really line breeding hard, I seemed to get a FEW exceptional pups every litter and several that were duds.....CLOSE breeding seems to always have several that need culling.....but it always seems to produce a few that are top shelf as well

Hussler

Doc bred Old Hussler to his Mom and we were not Happy with the cross. It was one and done. James McCleary Great Brandy was from a Father/Daughter cross. My Hammer II back on his daughter. We were going to breed her to her Gandsire Ohio Hammer and two got loose and got in with her so that's how it happened. I really don't know how the rest turned out as it happened at Don Setty's. He owned the female. Brandy was one of the very best I am told by many. Old Hussler's best pups were out of his Aunts....Dave

These Hussler Crosses were the main crosses I was thinking of when I posted earlier..

Have seen in recent history others with Will's Creek stock made with great success.. Male outside is grandma to grandson cross, female outside is a cousin cross, she is 8 mo. and well started and has been a natural so far.. we will see with her...If she makes the cut she will be bred to my male , her 3/4 uncle... Jury is still out on all that...

You would have better luck taking her to her half brother or fathers littermate brother or his half from sire or dam... That's real close. 1 generation apart can't be beat...

"Big Dog" was the Dixie female an aunt to Hussler ? I've always been told the greatest cross on him was the "Hussler x Dixie" cross. She was to have thrown more good dogs herself than were made with all the other females combined. One real good one that comes to mind is NtCh Harpers Blue Shaker who was bred to Harts Blue Sally which produced Ralphie Lee's "NtCh Lee's Blue Rock who was bred to Meaiges Blue Pepper. That cross produced the famous GrNtCh Mullins Eagle Creek Rockie and a littermate Napiers Blue Sally who was bred to Dr.Dale Adkins GrNtCh Woods Choctaw Blue Rambler who produced Bill LaRoches W.Va Blue Candy female. I believe that John Smith still has some pedigree info stashed on this . A call to Bill LaRoche would help sort out the cobwebs .Please correct me if I'm wrong .thanks.......Dave

Dixie was not Hussler's aunt... Chopper and Nell were... Doc's Hada gyp was a grand cross as well..... She was from Benson's Blue...

The Rambler/ Sally Cross produced my Beavis dog too, He was a dandy, although I never hunted with her, talkin to Bill. L. Candy, and Beavis worked almost alike. John does have about the closest thing to Candy.

Blue Label

I hunted with em all Hussler's I II III and Little Man.. and most of Doc's females.. Pansey, Angel, etc... The guy who started my Bluetick Addiction back in 1974 had dogs from Doc, they were good friends. That is how I met Doc, was thru him.. Made several trips to Shawnee Ohio to hunt and BS, Doc would come here to hunt in the Western Pa. Championship every year.. Hussler II won it 3 years in a row.. Little man beat the pants off his daddy the 4th year, 1979... I was carrying the scorecard.. Those two were amazing that night, but I put em in a ton of coon.. Heads in the air winding treed coons at distances most guys would never believe... Little Man put on a clinic !!!!

The young hound I trained here from Hussler stock would tree at 5 1/2 weeks old on a rag soaked in coon scent, Tree dog delux, got hit with lightning in a storm at 14 mo. old... Broke my young heart.... I bumped into a Bragg / Original Hammer young hound after that happened that was alot like old Hussler, he was affordable and I needed a hound bad, so I bought him. That side tracked me from Hussler blood... Then Doc's infamous divorce started and he was under court order not to breed dogs, needless to say the toll that took was bad, real bad... Later on Doc teamed up with Larry Storts and they made a come back, but with anything for working guys family oversees dogs... Larry has done well with em I have not seen him in a long time. Not sure where he is at with them all now, but I hope he is keeping it rollin..

Spoke to Doc the last time about 2 weeks before he passed on, Woofter was talking to him alot too at that time to compfort him.. He was still sharp as a tack and spoke of all our hunts together.. He was a true friend.. The man swore by those intense inbred Hammer II x Mountain Music crosses he made and those hounds, although mouthy and not real good lookin at times would tree more coon than most men could carry.. They were that good !!!

Wayne, she started quick and easy, still have that locating ability but she needs hunted a lot more than I have hunted her. Too many irons in the fire hasn't got her where she needs to be. My buddy Mike has a littermate male to her that is making a nice hound. Those dogs still have the ability to tree a coon old style. I'm working on mixing some of this old blood with some of the newer bloodlines that I have been working with over the last few years. The results have been promising so far. Some of the newer blood operates different than some of this older stuff and I'm trying to get the best of both by putting them together. One thing that has remained constant is the winding ability and the nose. The nose is where I see the advantage when these two types of dogs are hunted together, but it can be a disadvantage at times.

Bill Laroche

had a litter, possibly this one a few years ago that I almost went to look at... Just wasn't the right timing for messin with a pup for me... I know the mama dog was Jenny... We are still looking for that cross that will maintain that nose and add burning speed... I had one, but she would not have heat cycles... Only had 1 in 14 years... I hope what ya try works !!!

Bill Hubbard posted the litter for sale that Bill LaRoche had out of Magic and Jenny. I called Bill LaRoche and bought Houdini from that cross and that is how I met Bill. After comparing notes, he found out how close Ring was to the Hussler/Dixie cross, that Ohio Valley Blue Rambler was a brother to Dixie and a real reproducer himself, and that Tick II's mother was out of a Gr Nt female that was a sister to Rambler and Dixie's mother. Then there is other Hammer blood and a sister to Hussler II in Ring's pedigree so Bill decided to take a chance and breed Jenny one more time. I believe Jenny was 9 and Ring was 11 at the time that we made the cross. We were fortunate to make the cross happen and get a litter of pups. Bill has a couple of them and me and Mike have Bell and Ringer. Bill also has a male and a female out of Magic and Jenny. Darrion Dillion has Houdini now and really enjoys hunting him. Most important thing about all this is that I gained a couple friends in Bill LaRoche and Darrion. Good people in my book.

Hada

yep that Hussler x Hada cross made some power coondogs.. Hunted many nights with one my friend owned, younger brother to Hussler II... Those Hammer II bred dogs could get that nose up on a running track and make ole Ringtail climb... They kinda had a weakness fer speedbeef too..lol... That just came with the turf back in the 70's with those dogs.... Lots of fun as a teen following those Hussler bred dogs... Keep me posted on how this gyp of yours does in the future.....
