Aunt to Nephew and Uncle to Niece are exactly the same. They work great on paper but......you have to pay extra extra close attention to their traits. You are going to magnify the good and bad. They both have to be extra nice hounds with the traits that you want. You can't just breed any Aunt to Nephew or Uncle to Niece and expect to get a good hound. Now that is my opinion.

Let's say that you have 2 dice and one only has 4's on it and the other only has 3's on it. The % of rolling two 4's is 25%. The % of rolling two 3's is 25%. The % of rolling one 3 and one 4 is 50%. Now, substitute good coondog for the 3's and bad coondog for the 4's and what will you get? If you have a decent male and a decent female then the % should be 50%. But if you have a real, real good female and only a decent male then the female should contribute 75%. But you are still only dealing in odds. In the first example how many times do you think that you will really roll those dice before you actually get two 3's on one roll? Does the mother have to be "lucky" to have more good pups? Or does the Sire have to be "lucky" to have more good pups? Or do they both have to be "lucky"? Or maybe it takes "luck" on the part of the breeder. And also, There is a great number of traits that all have to come together to make a coondog. Way more that just 2 or 3. So the % of getting them all in one dog goes way down. And then you have to throw personality in the mix. It also takes a certain personality to make a top competition coondog. There is a lot more to breeding coondogs than just numbers or X's and Y's on a piece of paper.

I HAVE WENT OUT ON A LIMB AND BRED REAL CLOSE A FEW TIMES,MADE ONE FATHER TO DAUGHTER CROSS AND ONE MOTHER TO SON CROSS,AND GOT WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR BOTH TIMES,BUT YOU BETTER KNOW BOTH HOUNDS WELL,THEY BOTH MUST HAVE THE GOOD TRAITS YOU WANT AND BAD TRAITS YOU CAN GET RID OF OR LIVE WITH.YOU ARE GOING TO DOUBLE UP ON BOTH OF THESE AND YOU MAY GET MORE MORE THAN WANT.

Gr.Nt.Ch South Skunk Ciderella

Was a product of such a cross. A sister to Raven crossed on a Rat x Raven male. Worked out pretty good.

Now, I have no idea about her littermates. Maybe they turned out too.

alot of Doc

That cross there is much closer than uncle/niece . Doc is the granddad 3 times and great granddad 1 . I would say they will be quick to get struck . and very loud. Whatever they turn out like it would be time for an outcross after this one.

We have some here that are almost bred the same way.
