I got a redbone and she is 12 months she will bite a dead coon, she will also run a ways with my trained dog, but when my older dog goes further than 100 yards this young ome will come back and sit by the truck and laydown, never had a redbone but my walkers started way earlier and, also she will not bark at a coon bit she will chew/thrash a dead one if any one has any tips on how to help get her started she seems interested but i dont know

She is a pup, give her time and take her to the timber.

This has to be fun for the pup to start to enjoy it. IF this red pup has the tools, she won't be the same as most of the Walker pups right now. The red pups usually start on the track and come to the treeing. Giver her time man she is young.

With all of being said, and as we all know, not all of them make it.

Well what should i be doing with her at the moment running drags ect any ideas just staryed coonhunting in oct

The best advice I can give you is pretty much what I allready suggested to you on the phone. Don't expect too much too quick. I'd try releasing a cage coon in front of her and let her watch it run off. See if she'll track it or atleast try to. I'd also try running some drags for her with a hide and hang it up in a tree. Get her and put her on the track you layed and see if she can find the hide in the tree. I'd keep taking her out with your older dog also.

Now there is a chance she just does'nt have the goods too. They don't all make it. I'd just keep trying a steady dose of the things I mentioned above and give her a little time and see if she starts to come around. Hope she does for ya, Adam.

keep taking her to the woods, and don't be too hard on her if she tracks trash at first. Once her nose is well-engaged, then you can let her know what you want her to hunt and what you don't want her to hunt. Take her to the woods by herself and put a light on her to see what she is doing. Somethings bound to catch her interest.

Also, is she big game bred? She may prefer bears or cats. I know my bear dog started on barn cats... He takes his trailing ability so casually that he was showing me things without my realizing he was even trailing... A lot of redbones start semi-silent so she may be doing more than you think, just being quiet about it.

You don't say where you are, but it may also be a coyote problem. I have one dog that will come back if there's coyotes near, especially if he is alone. That's not a bad trait for a young dog to have in coyote country.

I would say that if the young hound tries to find a good hot drag,then make easy to find drags to give her succsess ,pet her up real good when she finds it and barks,dont let her tree by sight in other words make sure you can hide dead coon in the tree where she cant see it,when she finds it by smell ,drop dead coon down in her face [dead coon is tied to a rope] and then pull back up into tree ,this will let her know her nose was right....I would say freeze your dead coon so you can use it several times to make drags with,just get it wet before you make drag with frozen coon...in my opinion a young hound just getting started needs success every time you take her out...even though its a dead [frozen coon] tied to a rope ,all the young dog knows is she found it again.......and then when a houndsman offers to let you call him for help take advantage of the mans kindness and call,then make sure and give thanks to the houndsman

you can let her see it to try to get her to start treeing but after she she knows you want her to bark up the tree ,then by smell only

I got a buddy that hunts redbone. She wouldn't go , wouldn't tree, played like a puppy until she was 2 years old. wasn't even all that interested in a caged coon .He just kept putting her in the woods . She finally clicked and started tracking and going with my dog. She was loose on the tree for awhile .We shot a couple out to her when she did a good job tracking. Now she gets after it pretty good , track and tree . She's fast (compared to my blue dog) and accurate . Getting better and better . I wouldn't give up till you give the dog a real chance.

Can you put her on any caged coon or coon feeders? the shorter hotter tracks with a caged coon or a coon feeder give a young dog a big confidence boost. In my eyes caged coon and feeders turn a cute little puppy into a coon seeking machine if done right
