I've spent a lifetime in law enforcement (I'm in my 32 year) and I can't wait to retire. I lose my benefits when I retire and have to wait another year and a half for my military benefits to kick in so that I know I have benefits for a wife that fought cancer. It disgusts me when I am judged with people like this and by people like this. I have been involved in shootings (I've loaded two brothers in arms in ambulances thinking I would not see them alive again), been rammed broad side by a nut hell bent to hurt someone, involved in an incident that I thought a man was coming out of a vehicle to shoot me with a shotgun only to watch helplessly while he pulled the trigger with the shotgun under his chin, broken bones making arrests and seen too many little young sad faces. When asked why I went into law enforcement my answer has always been...I just hoped to make a small difference in someone's life. Before you go saying, "Well, you're the exception not the rule" I know too many fine men and women that are or were in it for the same reason. When the radio barked that someone needs help we don't stop to ask or question....we answer the call. I can honestly say the job has soured me. I have gotten to the point that I don't like or trust people. I will be the first to admit that there is a cancer in "my" career field. BUT, there are still good people in law enforcement that do not deserve this form of prejudice. Judgment like this leads me to believe that you suffer from some other form of prejudice, dislike for blacks, the Jewish, Italians, Irish, Catholics...you get my point. No one ever wants to wish their life away, but, I pray the next year and a half go quickly.
My appologies to Randy and any other honest member of law enforcement, but I believe they are getting fewer and further in between, at least in my neck of the woods. We have cops that would rather harass drinking high schoolers then bust kids that are frequently wrecking public and private property, buying and/or selling drugs, and stealing. Couple of years ago, a friend and I were nearly shot by some people that were poaching deer, called the game warden and left multiple messages. None were returned. Now he sits on gravel roads with his pickup lights off trying to chase spot lighters with NVG's. I got t-boned two months ago in about the most dangerous intersection in town. It took 15 minutes for the cops to show up, and we were about four blocks from the station. The officer that took my information lost my name, number, and insurance information.
I have no use for any of them. A good local vigilante group would do more good.
