Guess I should start a stirring post....At what age should one give up on a dog? .....Got a walker that is 8 years old that I owned all his life and he still wont leave my feet and go hunting? Reckon I could get some tips on how to get him going or should I just give up on him?

That couldn't be a walker gotta be something eles , sit on a stump & feed him treats when he won't go lol . That's the one thing that hasn't changed since you've been gone crazy people with crazy questions . Some of them just make me shake my head . You missed the humping dog thread not to long ago - like to fell out of my chair.
Don't know you I'm newer to here just not new to hunting ...Welcome Back & Good Luck in the woods !

That one was a new one for me and newbee hunters call all the time on what to do about this or that . I think if I had a dog with that problem I would be embarassed to ask if I didn't know what to do much less post it on the internet for all to see lol .
What do you hunt ? We've got our own line of walkers but have hunted about everything over the years if it would tree a coon .

I got a couple of young blue gyps that are decent. They need to be hunted way more then I have been hunting. My wife got a blue dog that is alright but should be a lot further along but as I said we just haven't had the time to hunt them. I am not colored blind when it comes to dogs/hounds I have seen good and bad in all breeds and colors. I do like to give some a hard time about their dogs specially them that are hooked on one certain breed of dog or color. I have owned some decent black an tans and walkers. I have been looking for a stephens cur for along time just cant find any close enough to go get a couple of pups.

Ain't but one color of true coondogs. Actually its 3. Tri colored..You know. I know it. Jason knows it. The whole board knows it but we must have other breeds besides walkers. Somebody has to lose

Yeah they keep the deer scattered around for the deer hunters giving each hunter a good chance at taking a good trophy.

They can run a deer all night and still beat ol blue or black or red or plott or cur to a tree with a coon in it. Can't beat the english all the time though. They been breeding more walker in them evidently

Cool

You know all this talk that was going on about a bluetick and five acres. See the deal is a bluetick can tree coons on just five acres all night long that's all the room they need when coons are thick. Them walker folks never realized there was so many coons in a five acre strip. Them walker dogs need 2000 ++++ acres just to tree one coon and will make a person walk 5 miles to a tree just to learn....that was one running possum. Them English dogs just cant keep up with them walkers fast pace and tree the coons them walkers are blowing past......So I guess you can say atleast they are a step behind a walker?

Lets not talk about our breeds anymore. I mean we could talk about a red dog or something. Something we don't hunt lol.
