That is true, much of it depends on the dog, demeanor of the dog while at the hunt etc. I had one I was hunting some comp. and as long as I stayed around him he would lay around and rest between hunts. If I walked away he would pace and bark his head off. If I didn't hang around him he would be worn out if I was hunting him in the coon hunt that night.
The ones you see laying around like mutts are usually the ones that go out of there like rockets. They have enough sense to rest up. I have a female now that a friend is hunting for me and she will lay down in the midst of a bunch of guys raising all kind of crap and sleep. But she will be ready to go when it is time to hunt.
