Hardwood Homer pedigree

Hardwood Homer = Skuna River Fred x Raccoon Valley Queen

Skuna River Fred = Skuna River Lipper x Raccoon Valley Queen.

if this is correct, then Skuna River Fred was bred back to his mother to produce Hardwood Homer?

Is this correct?

Yes he was. Fred was bred to his mother to produce Hub's Homer. I'm not saying I would try it, but in this case, it worked; and in a big way. He's produced lots of winners in lots of registries as well as winning quite a bit on his own.

Someone posted Homer's stud ad from the Cooner on here a couple months ago. Where it is now I don't know but you can get a better look at his pedigree.

I brought 3 of them back from Ky as weanlings. All three grew up to be absolute tree monsters. Two of them would slam every tree any other dog checked and at their very best were maybe 40 -50 % accurate. The third one was raised and trained by the toughest trainer I know and she is a rock solid, accurate coon treer.

I have a female off homer, and while she isnt perfect she will die at my house. She has plenty of go, and is accurate. she handles better than any ive ever had and is a true pleasure to hunt. im accutally going to breed her to lock box or bone collector this spring.

I've heard the good ones were really good, but then others were crazy. Which I believe is what to be expected when breeding that tight.

Fred threw a lot of heart in his dogs. I'd rather have a dog that would try as hard as they could and make mistakes but slowly get better and better. Then have a dog, that you have to hunt with another dog, to get it to hunt.

Alan Smith of Knoxville, Tn owned Raccoon Valley Queen. He also owned Fred as a young dog and had them kenneled near each other. Fred, at the time was just barely a year old managed to slip out of his kennel and into Queens and the rest is history. Not the way it was planned and say what you will about some of his pups but ol Homer sure was a dominant reproducer of winners. He was an outstanding dog in the woods as well.
