ukc rules question

hunted in my very first ukc hunt and have a question. 3 dog cast dogs a,b,c all struck in dogs a&b are the treed dog c trailing away dogs a&b leave tree go 10 yards n tree again they are re treed by their handlers the stay for the 5 this time but leave tree before they are handled cast moves to hear dog c which is treeing and so declared dog c holds tree for the 5 and is handled. big pin oak tree full of leaves coon not seen dog c recieves 175 circle points.cast moves back towards dogs a&b and dogs can not be heard. hunting judge calls timeout pulls out his garmin and tells handler of dog b to get his out(i the handler of dog c thought u had to leave your garmin in the truck) dogs r about 600 yds of we walk to truck pull closer to dogs a&b who are now treed handlers go get dogs a&b while time is still out. please tell me how many minus points dogs a&b should have and clarify the garmin rule. thanks

A and B would have 2 sets of minus tree points, and depending on the reason for the timeout might also have minus strike. If timeout was called because you walked out of hearing going to Cs tree their strike could be deleted if one of the situations listed in rule 8 existed, but if the cast simply decided to call timeout to move they would take minus on their strike. With A and B carrying strike points why was timeout called?
The ? about Garmins... Astros may be carried in the off position, The Alpha has to stay at the truck.

they called time out because after scoring dog c tree they could not hear their dogs then they pulled garmins out and dogs a&b were 460 yards out then we heard em what they did was delete their strike points and i quote " because dogs were not handled strike points are deleted

After scoreing Cs tree they should have returned to the last place A and B were heard and run the 8 minute rule, not hearing the dogs is not a reason to call timeout.

Rule 5D allows for points to be deleted IF one of the conditions listed in rule 8 is met. In all other situations their strike points would be minused.

re read the rules you mentioned john an none of them apply dogs a&b were together and rule 8g says trailing and out of hearing in different directions. furher more they were only 466 yds away hard to hear dogs if they are not barking. just a good learning experience! and oh yea if they had of minus those strike points after all the minus on the last tree they both would have minus out. thanks for your help,

They should have two sets of minus tree points, and strike should have been minused. You can't just call time whenever you want. They should have ran the eight because the dogs are still carrying strike points. As you stated, none of the reasons were met so the situation was handled wrong. As far as your other question, a person would have to see the tree before they could tell you how it should be scored. Just because a tree has leaves on it does not mean it should be circled. Hope this helps.

thanks brian they minused the tree it was about 12 inches through the middle and full of leaves it probably was slick but i had to question it cause i treed one monday nite up a medium sized tree with nary a leave on it and we could not find coon. i can usually call my dog off tree but she would not come that nite so after walking about 120 yards away had to go back to get her and he looked when he would not look you could not say it was a coon and that was with no leaves so in a hunt i would have minused the tree monday night and been wrong!!
