pullin a drag?

How long do you wait before letting the young dogs loose on a drag?10 minutes, 20 minutes, or thirty minutes?

cant help ya. Ive never used a drag. I use feeders with young dogs till they can tree an easy feeder bucket coon. Then i just start working mine in creeks and swamps. It may take mine several months on working a track before they can get the tree, but it works well for me.

Here we don't pull drags either ...many pups will get to where they run you not coon scent I guess you could try the plactic bags . We turn the occasional cage coon loose for pups 4-6 mo. At first letting them watch it go then turning them out on it ...then uping the annie turning coon loose waiting a while then turing them out on it (not letting pup see it)...the occasional hot track does get them excited just don't do to many...then turning coon loose in hunting spot in the evening waiting a while & taking pup to that spot after dark dumping him out in general area. Walking along little creeks & such is also good they can quite offen stike one on their own & helps with the ability to run a track around water & get them to take to the water. Most that have been here very long will run & tree on their own by 6 months & don't need anything else turned out for them. Ours run loose till 6 mo (gets them to run a natural track @ a young age) then the nights of real hunting begin.
