Decent gun for coon

Yesterday, I had someone break in to my house and steal a bunch of things. Totaled around 4000 bucks. They left all my hunting stuff, but I had my .22 and .17 out after sighting them in. Needles to say, they're gone. Indiana's season comes in November 9th, so I'm gonna have to buy a new one before then. I'm just looking for input on what to replace them with. Both were savage rifles, and I loved the .17 for coon. Flat out killed them with one shot every time and I could never find a hole. The .22 was nice, but it was a bolt action and if I needed a follow up shot it was sometimes too slow. I would like a .22 handgun but wouldn't like to spend a ton of money for it. Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the theft I would get a 44 mag just incase they come back for the things they left the first time!
The 17 shells are a lot easer to find than the 22 shells are right now.

Yeah, I can pick up a box of .17 about anywhere. I can never find .22. That may be the deciding factor.

You can't beat a Ruger 10-22. Never had a problem and it is short so it makes it easy to carry in thick woods and brush. I put a little red dot scope on mine and you can put the eye out it that is all you can see. Only problem right now is finding something to shoot in it.

Best 22 Rifle for coonhunting

Most definitely the Thompson Center 22 Hot Shot. Until you use one, you have NO idea what you are missing.

.

anything that you can mount a folding stock on and a sling.
ex;ruger 10-22.
guy can also make a ruger 10-22 folding stock fit a "cheap" gun like;mossberg plinkster semi auto{i did}

makes it easier to carry on your back,and have both hands free.easier to get threw the thick stuff.

I have had mine for probably twenty years. I got it at Wal Mart. Haven't priced one in a long time but you should be able to find about anywhere.

I have a Mossberg Plinkster 22 with a Tasco 3x9x40. Around $100 new. It takes a good beating and keeps right on going.

BROWNING 308 CAL.

I know you are going to say y would you use a hi power deer rifle for coon hunting, BUT a few years ago on a hunt with a bluetick, plott , walker , & my red female, we cut all 4 dogs on a wide shallow brook with very little water running , my red f. opened & I immediately called her struck, all the dogs went but did not open, but the plot came back & stood around us for a while then the walker came back that's when the guy with the plot reached down & put his dog on a leash & said my dog wont chase off game & then the guy with the walker put his on a leash. my female kept opening but slow up the river then the blue came in but he did not leach him , then finally about half a mile up river the blue opened SOME & he call him strike this was about 15 min into the hunt finally my female located & I called her tree , then the guy with the blue called his tree they went 3/4 mi & it was a den tree she was an very accurate treed dog & had a very cold nose & straight , I took a lot of kidding when I ran her a lot of guys said she was running deer, so I began to believe them so I would take my browning semi. auto 308 just in case one was up in a tree u never know ==== [[ TRUE ]] now its 4 sale that I am older & hardly used mint cond.

mossberg plinkster .22 with fold down front foregrip and thumbhole stock. Super easy to keep steady and accurate. Got a nikon 4x32 fixed power and peep through rings on it.
