Garmin DC-50 how many would you buy

I really think if Garmin was going to bring something out it should have been a DC 50 with no bulit in shocker. I know Garmin reads over here how many DC 50s would you guys buy?

I would buy 2 DC 50s today if they where out Tyler Vaden

Garmin can you hear us?

They don't need to come out with a DC-50, what they need to do is start making the DC-30's again.

I talked to a Garmin rep today at a show. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him how UKC's changes rules. The question is what would you want a 50 do? In the three builds they have released already the range has not increased in any of them. The internals and functions have stayed the same. The first ones were poorly designed, the 30's were fine except the collar they came on and the charging port. They fixed that with the 40s so what next other than increased range?

The 30's need some work too. Although they work better than the 40's they need the 40's charging system and a factory dayglo collar that is easier to swap out. Basically everything they have done with the new system minus the shocker.

I agree. I would buy DC 50 s, but I WILL NOT buy a alpha.
The tri tronic s G3 s have ruined me, and its sad because I have been a loyal TT user ever since I have had hounds.

If I decide to get a Tracker/Trainer Combo, It will be a SPORTDOG if they ever develop one with maps and features a way to mark locations...Till then, I ll run my 320, DC40, and my SPORTDOG 3225!!

I'm with you, i love my sportdog 3225. Not gonna spend $1100 for receiver and 2 collars just so i don't have to strap one more collar on.
I would like to see Sportdog come out with something that can compete with the alpha.

I hear people say stuff like this about the 30 but I am yet to have any of those problems. I have 3 that were bought within months of the their release and I have yet to have the first problem charging one. They are all still using the original black collar strap. The only thing that has been changed is one battery and two of them I replaced the antenna.

On the average I work on or send in 4 -30's a month. The ones that I end up sending in are due to water damage and most have never had the seal cracked... To date I've never sent in a 40 and have never changed a battery in a 40.
The only complaint I have out of my 40's and it was the same with my 30's is the range isn't consistent. I can drive a hour south and hunt flat coastal plan terrain and have no problem tracking a collar 5+ miles.. Hunting around here where its hills and hollers its lucky to get 1.5 miles.

Now after talking to a good friend down at the sand hills, he says the better reception is due to all the satellites the military has covering the 2 big bases.. So if your collars don't have a good gps signal or loses connection a lot, it may not be your collar or whole system but lack of satellites in your area.. The Alpha will have the same problem if your hoping a upgrade will fix it................

You're dreaming if you think Garmin is going to spend one thin dime on R&D for the anything ASTRO. They are putting all their eggs in the Alpha basket. They aren't about to develop anything or do anything to encourage anyone to ever again buy an Astro. Look for them to be discontinued in the not too distant future.

They will go the way of the beep beep. Looks like sportdog could get something going with tom tom or magellen and have a Dern map. Gotta have a map!! That's all that's holding them back. I don't see how garmin could have a lock on that.

IMO the only way they discontinue the Astro is if UKC makes a rule change to make the Alpha legal. Until then the Astro will have a role it has to fill.

and your right thats the ONLY thing. they are in the research and development stages now and I dont think it will be long before they are working on something...

as far as garmin having a lock on the map I m sure they do through Garmin, but Magellan has their own thing going.

when the Sportdog system comes out, I ll sell this 320...

all they need to do is get this to track a dog!!!!
http://www.magellangps.com/Outdoor-Navigation

they have the same sattelite imagery as the Birds eye and have all kinds of different maps.....CAN YOU HEAR ME SPORTDOG REPS!!??!!

no holds barred

I would not even flinch at purchasing an upgraded collar from ole garmin or even a hole new system should marshal come out with something that had more and consistant range. That will be the key for them to get my money. I do not why garmin can't morph the best qualities of the dc 30 and dc40 together and produce an upgraded collar with consistant reception and range even close to what they advertise it to be. The dc50 has my vote. However, that being said i'll let somebody else buy and try it before I invest any more money. Although i've been a tt supporter most of my hunting career i just purchased the sportdog 3225 and love it so the tt system is for sale incase anyone is looking.

From all thew emails I have gotten the Astro will not be phased out or discontinued. If Garmin pulled something like that their would be a huge uproar seeing how the alpha will not run a DC collar...

My 3 DC-40s work better than any DC 30s I ever owned, charge easier and are more compact for smaller dogs. Range is satisfactory, only thing I would want improved is run time, heck where I hunt a dog can be stranded for days with no signal due to the short run time.

I won't buy a 50 until all the problems have been fixed. I'll stick to my tried and true 30's.

Can someone explain to me what the charging problem is with the 30's that everyone keeps bringing up?

I have had 3 of them for years and years and never had the first charging problem.
