I don't haul them full of poop. I am amazed at the amount of water race people that take their dog straight from the pen to the truck. I have watched them poop and pee as soon as their feet hit the ground from a trip. Walk your pup around or let it run loose before you load it. And also change the hour you feed. Try feeding them after you get home. The fault is on you, not the pup.

POOPING IN BOX

We feed dogs earlier in the day or after hunt. If we have time we let our dogs run the dog yard about 30 minutes before loading up. If you don't have a dog yard try leashing dog to a stob & lead where they can run a little while. Or, Put hay in the box so their not sliding in it.

I have a pup that I'm trying to break of this very thing but she seems to be a little more difficult than the average to break of this habit. I have had the best luck with letting her run loose for a few minutes prior but she still hasn't put it all together yet and has trouble once the vehicle starts moving.

Many folks will suggest to feed them in the box, make the box their actual dog house for a short time, etc. While I've had some limited success with these methods, none have cured it. I feed 2x per day, once in the morning and again about 4 hours prior to hunting. I think most of her issue is from anxiety or excitement.

I have an old dog that does the same thing- it can get aggravating to say the least.

Walk the dog before you load it, also when they do poop in box rub their face in it and lit them up with Sportdog at same time!! don.t take but one or two times and they learn not to do it. Main think is to walk them first.

Its the unpardonable sin at my place. I have had two that I had to break or train not to do this. It wasn't worth the time and effort. Just move on to the next dog.

When I haul my dogs I open the dog box then the kennel door. I tell them to load, they run to the box and get in. I then shut the door. I'm not wait 10 minutes for a dog to take a crap before I haul him.

Life is to short to mess with a brainless dog

maybe their smarter than you think? I dont poop on my floor, why should the dog? then they get so excited that they can no longer hold it... just a thought.

try changing the feed time and/or walk/run them a bit first. i have never had this problem but it's kind of like a kid, they may just not know any better, or really have to poop

I have one that will not poop in her pen. she goes in the am and then waits for me to get home. i let her out and poop is the first thing she does. its not good for her to hold it close to 12 hrs or so, but if she wont let it go, then nothing I can.

I feed the dog I'm hunting after I get back from hunting. The ones I'm not hunting get fed before I leave(when the there one runs to the truck to load). So I'm good there.

I believe nervous energy is the root cause. I'm a coonhunter not a dog walker. He can crap before I open the pen door or after we get to the woods. I don't have time to mess with a idiot that craps in the box. it is a hassle to clean and I aint smelling dog crap all night.

Again life is to short. find another dog.

For all the ones saying "put a cap in it" or get red of it and move on, didn't your mom have to teach you not to poop in your pants? Same goes for your dog, you have to teach it what to do and not do. If you don't have time to let dog walk around for 10 mins before you put it in the box then you don't have time to hunt. JMO

Some times in pups it's just motion sickness from not being use to being hauled in the truck. Some throw up some crap and some do both. Occasionally it takes awhile and a lot of trips for them to get over it.

Some people in the board are maniacs or at least try to act the cold hearted tough guy. Please be careful as to who you take advice from when you ask a question on here.

I would say 90% of the people I know in the real world wouldn't waste time on a pup like this. Sure if you want to go ahead. there are 1000's of dog that wont crap in the box

pooping

Mostly nerves. I've had a couple pups that had the problem and eventually stopped, but it's not worth the problem unless the dog is doing great and then I doubt that it is.
