MEETING

We hunted 111 dogs Thursday nite & I believe we had 58 there for the meeting on Friday . The 2 big votes were that we will not be given up our July date anytime soon & the other was NRCA is going to put together a prize packet for National Redbone Days only for the amount of $1500. This money will be split up for feild trail , water race & nite hunts. This has been long overdue & we are looking forward to giving back to our members for there hard work & entries in the events.

Take care & good luck

Vote to change NRD

The vote was 42 to not change and 14 to change the date. There were more people than that who did not vote at all.

Should have never been

First vote should have been enough. In my opinion they who are on the board and who have been on the board have a lot on there plate. I do thank them for there time and dedication. However trust is something that I feel could have been lost in this decision. I realize that some that felt strongly against it when it was originally voted on may not have been there. So now we revote it so it can be fair to all. That also could be the reason so many didn't vote that were there. Question will this be an issue again if ones aren't able to attend for whatever reason? Will there be a new vote to correct something that got voted in while they aren't there? I can tell u that is the way it shouldn't be. I read all the stuff about if we change the date and lose this weekend we may not get it back or kids and family can't attend for missing school. Complete Lu understand my Daughters Bday is 7-5. So that's why I can't attend. No fault of anyone's. she isn't into coo hunting. So I will have to attend other events like Southern Days or American Days when it fits in my schedule.

It is obvious what took place.

It is obvious to me, watching what has taken place since the vote at the 2012 NRB Days.
We couldn't make it on Friday, so we took the weekend off and watched fireworks as a family " at home", which was fine with us.

I agree Totally With Darrin, I done the same thing spent th e4th with family like many others.

111 dogs hunted means had to be atleast that many members there.

How many members is there, its almost 400 mile one way for me to holmesville.

How many members is there total in the association??????

How hard would it be to have a mail in vote, or computer generated vote.

If I am not mistaken isnt that the way that dogs are selected for hall of fame, by mail in votes?????

Its political no doubt, what I dont understand is how you can in such a short time frame bring something back to vote that has already been voted on. What good was the first vote

It is what it is, I guess thats why there is 3 associations.

And looks like they are room for maybe another ass ociation or 2

Darren ,Larry

I have read enough comments from other threads to see that I am not alone. I will continue to support, but will unfortunately be ready to question. I wasn't there so I will drop the issue. Wish you guys the best with your hunting!

Sleepin

Got back at 4:45 am after driving over 1 and 1/2 hours to hunt....So I was not at the meeting....I thought meetings were supposed to be on Saturday anyway....Oh well....People, the only reason I was there was to pick up my gyp that was in Indiana getting bred....I really like all the redbone people I have met over the years, but have come to realize that to bring pups to try and sell at a redbone event is fruitless. My new line of approach is to go to other breed events and try to impress those men, that redbones have come a long way in the past 20 years.....I believe I have a better chance of moving some pups or at least drawing interest for my pups at Walker Days or the Grand American. It took 2 days of warm ups to get my girl back in form after not pleasure hunting since March....Oh well. Have the summer hunts. I doubt I will be there, but if I am I will be smiling. Fortunately, it was a little rainy and kind of cool . Its sad to hear that dogs were lost at last years event because of the heat....I guess thats what happened, thats what I heard, I was not there...... Hope to get to some hunts this Fall, Winter and Spring.....3 outta 4 aint bad.... Lucas

I voted

I voted at both of the meetings. Last years and this years . It appears to me that only one of those votes counted. "this years" The NRCA acted very quickly to inact what was passed at the meeting this year. It is a shame they did not have the wings under their feet when members voted in 2012.
I have decided that the spare time I have to help one of the associations will be spent with the American Redbone Coonhound Association. I love the way that the ARCA moves it's hunt around to at least try to make it easier for all the members to attend. The people that are involved are focused on the breed and how to promote it and not near as worried about the politics and the control of it's members. One of the reasons the ARCA was formed was to correct some of these same old problems that still face the NRCA. I will always be a member of both but will give priority to the ARCA , in my opinion it better represents the wide spectrum of members. What has always been important is the dogs themselves and promoting them, the politics is what will turn many away. If you haven't already ,join the ARCA. You will enjoy their events .

I agree

Luke I have seen that happen at several hunts. People bring pups and take the same amount home. Couldn't have said any better Kelly and Brian.

I've seen the process many times . There's a vote and then the one's that don't agree bring it up and submit a motion for a vote at the next meeting , just the way it is . It's much more time consuming to change than it is to leave it the same .
I enjoy the event and haven't missed many during my time but a few years ago I said I wasn't going south in the hot weather any more and if the forecast is like it was last year I won't go anywhere .
Prizes for the winners is a good idea . We don't get purina points any more so pure enjoyment is the biggest reason we have to enter dogs for 3 days in a row .

Do you go to just about every redbone days hunt like Kelly does? Just wondering......because I can see why Kelly is frustrated. I have seen him at southern days, american days, and national days most years I have been going. He helps out, participates and votes at the meetings....so I understand his frustrations over some of this stuff.
I guess I have a harder time understanding people griping about the outcome of the vote....when they don't come to the hunt...or if they do...they don't bother to show up for the meeting.
The opposition showed up.....and caught us short handed when the vote was called.....who is to blame for that? If more people would walk the walk instead of talk the talk....maybe the outcome would have been different. Makes me wonder why people who don't even show up to hunt (or vote) have so much criticism on the outcome of those votes.....

What to expect ???

Shane. I guess one of the reasons I quit caring is that I expect people to make the honest, right decisions. I guess it goes back a few years when ballots where no longer sent out...That eliminates a large percentage of the members that would surely like a say in the business at hand. I know I would always cast a vote and always did when sent a ballot. I will say that things will prolly be this way for another 10 years.... Until then, I am going to continue to go to the hunts that I chose and will enjoy NRCA hunts if I so endeavor. I am not gonna grip or complain, but as I have read on here, maybe there are some other associations that have the dogs and hunters as there top priority. Lucas

Mark, I agree that every member should have a voice....and a vote. Maybe we as members can make some motions that might give that to the members...all members and not just those who show up to the meetings. I imagine it is expensive and pretty labor intensive to mailed out ballots and then compile all the ballots and record the results while keeping the process honest and accurate and maybe thats why they stopped doing it. But I also feel that the will of the whole membership isn't always represented when such a small number of the overall membership show up to vote. I am not sure what the % of the entire membership was who voted this last time....but I would bet that 60 or so votes cast is a much smaller % than most people would think adiquate for decisions on important issues that face our association.
I do feel like many of those in charge are trying to do the right thing by the members and the association....but there are many who still stand in the way. The best way to effect change is to vote in people who share the views of the majority of the membership and the only way for that to happen is if the majority of the members have the chance to vote so maybe we need to look into sending voting ballots out to every member. I would support such a motion because it brings more members into the decision making process.

IT'S HARD

To keep reading all the negative comments about NRCA & the way some things keep happening that puts a bad taste in your mouth. Heck, I've been on the board for a few years now & try hard to help make it better & sometimes I even run into a road block or get shot down by older members for wanting to do something different. I keep hoping that oneday things will change but so far it hasn't. Guess I will keep doing all I can to help better the NRCA .

I still believe we need more people stepping up to become board members & officers that have new ideas & are willing to help make some good Quality changes in our leadership .

Funny!

I thought I was aloud to have complaint. My bad! I was at Nat. Last year and no I haven't ever been to Southern Days. Why am I explaining! Shane I have never met you, you don't know me. I have no problem with anyone debating or arguing a point or statement that I have stated. I will continue to support as I stated above and if you would spend sometime thinking before u open your mouth and run it. I have been at several Redbone Days in the past and US Days And American Days. I have kids and a family that comes first. So I apologize to you and others if I offended you in my complaint. I don't recall running into you back when I was at the hunts constantly. I will be sure to introduce myself next time I am there and we can discuss anything or issue you want. Then you can make your opinion of me as a person and not a complainer. Last year I left on Sat morning. I hunted Thursday and got beat byJason Guillams and Chicken Foot. Nice Dog. Friday one my cast. Dog sat in there treed for over an hour and a half in the woods. He was hot but stayed. That is why I am complaining. I will not do that again to a dog. His name is Lick Creek Jack Jack. Good luck to all !
