Hunted as a child with my uncle and grandfather, they had redbones. However they lived 3 hours away so I only coonhunted a few times a year with them, usually at Thanksgiving and Christmas break.
I worked in Tobacco during the summers and at 14 years old in 1984 bought my first Redbone puppy from Tony Russell in Big Springs, WV. This dog turned out, though he was notjhing great, very much a me too dog with a low mouth. However at the time in my youth I thought he was the greatest.
My best 2:
Ch'PR' Herring's Pine Cone Chance - I bought her as a started dog from Lester Greene, she was bred similar to the JABO dog which makes sence since Larry got JABO from Lester also. Chance was a great strike dog and great track dog and a good tree dog she choked down when treeing which sometime affected my ability to hear her. She won many casts, but never got the first place need to be a Nt Ch.
'PR'Herrings Pine Cone Max - MAX was out of Bernard Schindeckers (sp?) Rambo male. he was small built, super dark red, almost dead silent on track, impressive tree dog. He was given to me by a redbone guy because he had health issues. Max was sick and I spent big $ trying to save him. We got him healthy, only to have him take a setback 6 months later and die. I do not normally like semi-silent to silent dogs, but I must admit Max was fun to hunt and impressive on the tree. I wish he had lived longer.
