Did you ever almost quit hunting?

What made you think about quitting
and
What brought you back around?

Hard headed dogs have caused me to a few times but once it's in your blood you're done for life no matter how hard you try to turn away.

I'm bout ready to quit. Lol. Just isn't the same as it used to be more and more expensive and harder and harder to keep the dogs hunted, maintain a job and keep a family happy.

My young dog got killed last summer in a hunting accident. Thought deffinatly crossed my mind, for little while I didn't go hunting as much and had to more or less force myself to go but as the hunting got better the end of the summer the desire to go came back.

I did quit for 10 years because of a woman that I was dating but have been back in the sport for almost 11 years now and don't plan on quitting again. I get frustrated sometimes and think about quitting but then I realize that I have had more fun chasing these old hounds than anything I have ever done and the people that I have met are some of the best friends that I have.

Seven years

I got out of coon and bear hunting for seven years. Do to family and work. Now that the kids are older and a different job I have worked my way back into coon hunting. Its been a long hard road just to get back to where I was. But I will never complain because being there with my littles ones was more than any joy than treeing a coon could ever be. Im just lucky that I have two wonderful kids and the most loving supported wife that a man could ask for. By the way they all fight over who's going what night. Even the wife. So if your thanking about quieting for family, work than do what has to be done you won't regret it I promise. If quieting because of hounds, other ppl bs dont do it. Take a break catch your breath and hop back in.

I almost quit years ago when my kids were about 2 & 4 years old. My wife was working the night shift and I was down to 1 to 2 nights a month. I told her I was going to sell the two dogs I had but she said that she was changing when she worked. I hunted the last six weeks of the season and turned a 5 year old dog from a dog that could tree a coon into a real coonhound.

Never seriously considered it. I did get without a decent dog once and made myself a promise that I would never go hunting without leaving at least one dog at home that could tree a coon.

I quit for 6 months once.

Had been married a couple years, new baby girl born. Wasn't hunting the dogs and felt sorry for them. Sold the 2 dogs and my tracking system. Glad I didn't sell everything cause I got back in after 6 months. Just had to hunt less and keep it all in balance. Not always easy though. Hunted a total of around 25 years now.

I was a pretty wild guy in my younger days and did a lot of things I shouldnt have. God got a hold of me in 1996 and I started a completely different way of life. Had a son born in 2002 and he wanted to start hunting with dog a couple years ago so now I'm back.

Glad you found a good woman I had a good one the whole time and she kept praying til I came around. When I say I was wild in my younger days that is an understatement and God delivered me from a lot of things in my life. Coon hunting was the only thing I cared about except the drugs I did so when I gave it all to God I gave it all. Now after all these years I can go hunting again without it being all I care about and its something my son and I can do together.
