It is with sadness I announce the passing of GR NITE CH River Swamp Hardtime Weasel. She lost her battle with bone cancer today. Her illness turned for the worse a week ago where I decided it was in Weasel's best interest to end her suffering and had her put to sleep today. I buried Weasel underneath the last tree she made in the bottoms I hunt. Luckily, I was able to catch her last hunt on film and have a DVD to remember her bark and her slobber mouth treeing style. From now on when I cast a set of dogs in that bottom, I will always stop and think about this sweetheart.

Weasel was the last living female from GR NITE CH Hardtime SwampCat and CH GR NITE CH Lickety-Split Leah. She whelped two litters with a grand total of sixteen pups, one litter from GR NITE CH Ashley's Red Cloud and the other from GR NITE CH & Purina Coonhound Award winner Haile's Red River. She is the mother of GR CH GR NITE CH Moravian Falls Dream Crusher and NITE CH Rainstorm Cloud Buster. Both of these hounds are out of Ashley's Red Cloud while the Haile's Red River litter is still under a year old and haven't had a chance to start their nite hunt careers.

While bone cancer is a terrible thing and something a breeder should avoid when considering a particular cross, I want everyone to know my research revealed that Weasel probably increased her chances with this disease by injuring herself in a hunting accident when she was a year old. Because of that, I feel Weasel was not 'genetically wired' to contract this disease from her ancestral breeding alone.

RIP Weasel. You were a sweetheart and loved by many.

This was one of the special crosses make here at my kennel. I raise all the pups in my house. These dogs get to be like family. Leah is still here,but her daughters, from this cross are gone. Weasel was a great one. Her sister Tobasco Sue was a great one There were Seven pups in that litter and they all made Grand Nite but one and he has three wins, One also placed 12 in the UKC World Hunt. One of The brothers will be featured on my guest page in the English issue of Coon Hound Bloodlines. GRNTCH Moores Harditme Speck. He is located in ohio. Leah her mother is now 12. My friend you will get another one Be Blessed PS. None of the others had cancer.

Everyone, thanks for the kind words, the pm's and the posts on here. It sure is strange walking down to the kennel and not being greeted by her. You never got out of leaving the kennel without petting Weasel. She made sure of it.
