I am going crazy with my dog,during the winter and all the way up to about a month ago my dog was looking like a movie star treeing coons,then all of a sudden he started running what seemed to be terrible tracks .Has he lost his nose or what ?He is a real accurate dog but now he just beats tracks to death is anybody else running into this ?If you are hunting in the south please reply.and not feeder buckets .THANKS

My pup got in blackberries the other night. Beat around awhile and finally treed. Seen what he was in on way to him. Thick and crap laying down. Had ole ricky though. No hot tracks lately

They may be moving in the morning in NC. BUT where I hunt in GA they are not moving mutch at all B/B ever where U go and hot as hades here plenty of watter and food everwhere, Tracks may last 100yd if that around here. Now that could be because of the quality of dogs I'm hunting, meaning they ain't mutch, but they are the best I got. With that said this time of year around where I hunt that is the way it has been in the past. GOOD OLD SUMMER TIME HUNTING IN GA. Had a pretty good run yesterday morning though 70 degres around 5:00 ,not to bad, ran like a sow and she put the wham bam on the dogs to. MISSSSSED HER. and by the way had 2 power house walker dogs with my pot licker also. GOOD TIME THOUGH.

Its been the same for me here in the mountains of va. Once this warmer weather moved in and all the rain it seem like someone hit a switch and the coons disappeared. Still tree one here and there, but they'd been tracks right in the creeks. Good luck and safe hunting.

Hey H L,
How have you been? Good to hear your retired and getting to hunt. Where do you do most of your hunting... I know here it is difficult to find timber that hasn't been cut.
Have you hunted squirrel with feist? That's what I been doing...and it is fun making 15-25 trees on a two hour hunt, and sq. are a little more abundant than coon...
Heard that Doc Vinsant is in hosp. w/heart problems.

Terry,I'd say he might have some allergy problems that aren't allowing him to smell as good as he could. Try giving him 1 20MG Claritin a day and see if it helps. Don't get the Claritin D, just plain Claritin.

Pop up coons are the norm right now. Boom boom. Wild cherries getting ripe here. Want be long and Im expecting some kittens. If your out there reading this. You might be fixin to get wet. Pouring it out here

It gets harder for alot of dogs in the summer because of all the life the woods has to offer. Example: summer brings humid air. with humid air, it dampens every scent, making it sronger. All different types of plants blooming or bloomed. Saps from trees are rich. Scent from all animals stick around longer including rats, snakes, and even fat juicy bugs. Pollen from all the plant life can have an effect as well. See, theres a lot of elements that present themselves in the summer unlike the cooler months causing confusion in some dogs. especialy young dogs.
Heat can also be a major factor. Dogs as well as us humans dont perform as well when it is hot and muggy. So there are many explanations to maybe why it is harder to hunt in some areas in the country than others.
Or, it could be that the coons just aint movin in your area???

I get off work at 2 am and this week on my way home I have seen deer and coons moving here almost every night around 2.30.I put a pup on a highway coon about 20 minutes old,he never ran the track like a hot race more so like a working feed track,While listing to the pup, at times I wondered if he was doing a sorry job or if he was doing good, he followed this track thru some bad stuff but finally showed me a set of eyes 55 minutes later.My summer time huntin is hot tracks in the corn and bad tracks almost everywhere else. I know the kittens should be movin now but I haven,t seen any on the highway

under growth in the woods can make it hard on any dog, and make it super hard on a young dog. I have also found that coon shift to moving early morning or early evening as well.

I ant in Georgia but Here in Ohio majority of the coons we are tree in are lay ups. We get like one good race out of 5 coons.Im guessing its because there's not much to eat.Looks as if it will be this way till the corn grts ripe.Im ready for fall.
