I would say that you would have to go to the various strains within the breeds. Few folks are breeding with the pleasure hunter in mind these days, most folks just want a competition type dog and some of these types would not suit the average pleasure hunter. One of the 2 strains of English I raise is "pleasure" bred. I would reccomend Mt Curs as pleasure dogs also.

Pleasure dogs

The line of Blueticks I hunt are more for pleasure only because they don't hunt wide, everything else is the same track speed. fast striking, open trailing and hard tree dogs. Bragg and Vaughn.........

Any Bluetick or B & T make excellent pleasure hunting dogs.

I think that strains within the various breeds tend to be more alike than dogs from the same breed. In other words you might find a strain of bluetick that is more like a strain of redbone than they are another strain of bluetick. You'll have to find a strain that suites you. Everyone likes a different type of hound. I mostly pleasure hunt, but I still want a competition style hound to pleasure hunt with. I like a dog that can win when I feel like going to a hunt, and when I have a nice young hound operating right I hit quite a few hunts. After pleasure hunting for a while you might decide you want the same.

Whether it is competition or just going out on a creek or wherever to turn loose the hounds,if whichever we choose is not a PLEASURE then maybe we should look at what we are doing to see if it is really something we find pleasure in and if not maybe we should look elsewhere for something to occupy our time. There is no choice between which breed makes the best pleasure hound because there are strains in each breed that will fit the individual preferances of what a hound should be.The challenge lies in finding the right strain and breed that fills each individual's needs.
