Suppose a dog is handled on a leash during hunting time for whatever reason (leash locked, walking to cast, shining a tree, just whatever legal reason you have to be near the dog). Can a handler give his/her dog water while on the leash during hunting time? Please gentlemen explain your answer. I personally have never run into it but I was at a hunt where some people got pretty upset that one dog got water when the others didn't. I think it doesn't matter, but that's just me, but we were hunting in some pretty dry stuff.

This happened about 3 years ago. I think the hunting judge tried to scratch the guy. He(the hunting judge) also happened to be the president of that club too. I think they had to finally talk to a UKC rep. to get an answer

i dont know the offical rule on it. but to me if a dog is on a lead and needs a drink let him have one. you can bet if a dog is thirsty while hunting and runs into a water hole hes going to get him a drink. anyone who raises cane about a dog getting a drink is grasping at straws to win a cast. jmo

I do not think there is a rule on it. Only a jerk would complain about it. I would offer water to others. Usually have s jug in truck for dogs.

An older guy I know pours a little on dogs back between drops to cool dog down when hott!!!!!!!

Hot or cold and you don't want your dog to die......... give it water and ***** slap whoever says you can't. F that!!!!!!! Noboby has the right to tell me or you that you can't give your dog water while leash locked, time out or anything lol!!

I have a water bowl in the truck so when we get back my dogs can get something to drink if they wish... but in the summer when it is hot I will also carry a bottle of water with me to give to my dogs while they are handled at a tree... and actually sort of wonder why everyone doesn't do it... on just about ever cast I have been on the handler brings them something to drink.. so why wouldn't the dog want something to drink also?

I have been following hounds for a long time and have had only one that will drink while hunting. All of the others would only drink if they knew it was time to head home. And I live were it gets 100 plus degrees all summer long.

I don't know why in the world anyone would ever want to try and scratch another hunter for trying to take care of their dog unless they are scared and grasping at straws to win the cast.

I know if anyone eever said anything to me I tell them that's fine but when we get back to the truck you'd better not take a drink either. The dogs out here doing all the work to win u a trophy or money and if it can't drink you're not going to either!!

that's pretty low if your going to kick up over something like that.. I don't care wether someone waters there dog or not, if it needs a drink it needs a drink especially in hot weather. And I will be watering mine if I think they need a drink!

My dog drinks Poweraid straight from the bottle.. He gets a drink every time I leash him.. Its not my fault . ou didnt bring your dog something to drink

i bring water for me and the dog...but we cross enough creeks that i never have to water them...if hes on a leash and we are walking and come near water i take him to it and stop and let him decide if he wants a drink or not...


if i hunted somewhere its dry i always have water for him in the truck....i dont have that trouble though..going to hunts i bring it just incase..

Hey what if I forget my tracker can I scratch you in time out for tracking your dog. Or what if my dog only has 3 legs hey do I get to scratch u for not cutting a leg off. My dog ain't loud as you dog make him bark quiet its not fair. Whaaaaaaa whaaaaaaa buncha cry babies. Get your dog in shape before you go and he wont need much any way. If he does give it to him if they wanna scratch you be proud cause your smarter and they scared of your dog. Lol this is the best post ever lol
