An experienced dog will teach you more than another hunter

Can someone explain the saying? I have never hunted before and my cousin just gave my husband and I a female UKC Black and Tan and a male redbone. Both are 3 years and great hunters. My husband hasn't really taught me anything yet so I'm trying to learn things by October.

If the dog is any good you will figure out what the saying means. And another dog teaches another dog nothing.

Montague Stevens said when you learn to communicate with a dog on a level where he gets it, dog training gets easy. I've got a Cameron bluetick and I can cower him with a dirty look and I've never laid a hand on him. He's the toughest dog I've owned in fourty years of following hounds, and I've learned more from him than all the rest combined. Your body language will tell the dog more than your words.

Couldn't have said it any better myself other than body language and tone of voice...

I've seen dogs trained on clickers, never have to say a word to them!

Just like good dogs , good houndsman are hard to find !

A good dog will only show you what to expect from a good dog.
A good houndsman can teach you how to produce that good dog.
