Underground fences or wirekess containment systems for their hounds?

I just bought the "petsafe wirekess containment system" yesterday, as well as an extra collar, to toal roughly $420 and im loving it already. I only have one hound, a two year old walker male, and a 4 month old mastiff cross thats already as big as my walker male, and it seems to work great. I still kenneled them last night but they ran all day yesterday and today, both have been shocked twice but learned very quickly that white flags mean they shoukd stop or turn around. Their area is 170-180 feet wide circle, they have pleanty of room to romp around and it was WAY CHEAPER than trying to build a nice sized kennel or fencing in my yard.

Now many of you are prolly wondering why i bothered. Well, like it or lump it, i was raised with the belief that dogs, hounds or otherwise, are pets, and pets are part of the family, and if i was a dog, i wouldnt like being kenneled or chained up for even 8 hours of the day. In just two days both dogs seem happier and not as overly energenic as they were before during their time to run.

Has anyone ekse tried this, like it or waste of money?

I wud have to agree w buckshot... hard to believe a hound w any determination and energy wouldnt run right thru it...... ive had a few that would probably adhere to it, but they dont live here anymore.......id just as soon my hound was tied up anyway instead of running free that way I know where he is n the neighbor down the road aint all wound up....
The thought sounds great, but dont think its made for a hound....????
Im thinkin if a dog is walkin up to the area he might get the drift and it stands a chance to work, but a hound on the trot or run mite b thru before he understands the system....then he just got shocked n is now on the outside not wanting to go there again...
????? Just a thought

My system works great on my BmC and my redbone. Both been shocked with training collars when they were young and I think that it went along way to making them respect the fence They will not leave even to chase the neighbors cat. I have about three acres fenced and am totally satisfied. However my parents have the same system and have had their cue and ****ation run through to chase animals. I think that the vibration warning my dog gets is consistent with the vibration warning they get when they have collars on huntIng and they know to behave

I think the underground fence works well but like mentioned above if the dog gets thruogh he may not wanna come back in for fear of being shocked again. My dad uses is it and it seems to work well but a hound may get lit up to follow their nose I would think lol

I have used the underground fence and the wireless fence. The wireless is definately the way to go. I don't know how long it will shock for once it loses radio signal. I have it on two springer spaniels and they haven't pushed there luck. I used to have the underground and a 4' chainlink fence at my old residence and the same spaniels were out all the time.

I also want to mention that the first 12 months we had him, a shock collar was used to get him to come, and/or stay n the yard... so maybe he was half trained already
