Open on track?

I have an 11 month old redbone male pup. B3, fireball and some timber chopper bred. Started young. Shows a lot of promise. Almost finished off. Will run and tree a caged coon. Just need to work him more.
He just doesn't make any noise on track.
Is it just his age and inexperience? Or is he always going to be closed on track?
Any advice on how to get him to open up?
Any advice would be helpful!
He is my first coonhound, so I want to make sure I help him in any way I can!

A lot of young dogs are pretty quiet when they first start running track. Give him some time, he will probably start opening more.

I had a redbone that started opening up just a little on track when he was young and he never got any better. As he got older he didn't open on track much at all except occasionally on a red hot one. He had the same bloodlines as your dog.

Alright. Thanks for the advice everyone.
I have only had him open on one once.
Haven't heard him on one since.

For guys just starting out.I tell them to get and read the Walk with Wick books. You will learn more from them than most guys learn in a lifetime hunting and trying to train dogs...Most guys dont learn from there mistakes when training a dog...Like when doing drags and cage coon..A little gos a long way and a lot can ruin a pup...Pups can get so they have to see a coon to tree it.That comes from over doing cage coon...You only want to do drags or released coon until they start treeing them. Then once they start treeing no more than 2-3 times..The more you do things like that will only cause trouble down the road...You hear about guys that let every dog they own tree on cage coon.Even old broke dogs...But that can mess up or even ruin most dogs if you do it too much...I never let my dogs see a cage coon unless Im about to give up on them..Thats at least over a year old........(A trick to get a dog to open up)???..Take a rope about 20 ft put a fresh killed dead coon on the end of the rope...Swing the coon around you in a big circle.Just keeping it out of reach of the dog...It works with most dogs..Most dogs will never open on a drag no matter what you do.

I ruined a young dog when I was younger showed it to many caged coon and let him tree on em. He got to the point only would stay on tree if he could see the coon. I like to show mine 1 caged coon at a young age turn it loose let him tree it and shoot it out for him. Then no more after that its all on him to find and tree the coon.
