yes if the trailing dog opens you have to turn loose. If the dog isnt opening put the 8 min on him...if that expires, minus him and still turn the dogs loose.

In your scenario after scoreing the tree A and B are recast as soon as dog C opens. If dog C is not heard for 8 minutes his strike is minused and A and B are either recast to compete for a new set of strike points or a majority of the cast can vote to call timeout and move. Rule #11

Jeremy dogs have to compete for the entire 2 hours. The only exception to this is dogs being treed and keeping you leash locked. In UKC if a dog is struck in after you score a tree you must first start the 8 Minutes on it then once its heard imimmediately cast your dog. The only time you have the choice is if one is declared treed and one is struck in. Then you have the option to either turn your hound or walk it into the treed dog.

The option does not equire the at large dog to be struck in, he just has to be out there competing.

Read rule 11. That rule covers this one. Pay close attention to the words "....dogs MUST be turned loose with other dogs that are opening on trail....."
