pup pen?

I was looking for some ideas on what kind of fence and post people have used to make a pup pen. I was looking at the 2x4 horse fence but it is alittle pricey for the amount that I'm going to need. I'm looking at fencing in about 5-6 acres of my woods. Any ideas would be helpful.

Pen

The cheapest way I know is to use a wireless fence. You put a shock collar on them, then set the amount of distance from the transmitter they are allowed to go. They also have the invisible fence that works off a small buried wire. Either one would be cheaper than fencing that amount of area.

I have seen the wireless system on eBay. Really ain't that bad priced. Only draw back I see is you would have to tie your dog up when you have to re-charge the collars.

Good luck.

I do know that I want to use actual fence. Here is what I'm looking at, horse fence is going to cost me about $4500 just for the fence steel post up here are $8 apiece and I need around 300, so that is another $2400, I was going to try to use telephone poles for end post. So I was trying to see if there was anything out there for post and didn't know if anybody knew of anything ruff cut locust, cedar, treated or anything else? Same thing with the fence, the stuff I'm looking at is 5' tall and was thinking I might need to go alittle taller. I did ask a couple buddies of mine if they thought a double row of regular farm fence would work that would make 6'-7' tall, also should I put some in the ground to keep from digging out? I know with farm fence pups would have to be alittle older before you put them in there or they could go through the holes in the fence. The main thing is I want to try to do it right. I don't mind taking a truck and trailer on road trip to pick stuff up if it saves enough money to make it worth while.

I have 4 1/2 acres fenced with hog wire 42 in tall with electric fence 6 in above that. Works great and they don't try to did out. Pups are ok in it usually by 10/12 weeks old, bout the time you can leave them out at night because of owls.

I have seen people use two or three strand electric fence. Just teach the dogs to respect it before turning them loose.
