Louisiana hunters

Anyone hunt down in abbeville or Pierre part area. Thinking about moving to get away from the northern bs. Just wanted to know how the hunting is. Thanks.

Louisiana

The food is great and people the same, but not the best coon hunting. Water and more water with a lot of marsh. The best hunting is north of I-20 . It gets better the futher north you go. Welcome to La. and have a great day.

The food is awesome in that area but I would second the idea about getting just a bit farther north. However, I would only go as far north as the central portion of the state. There is a bunch of forest service land and a few WMA's but those can onle be used during competition hunts (with a permit) or they have a kill season. Also plenty of private land but it can be accessed normally by talking to the owners. I have a deer lease in the north-central portion of the state that has a huge hardwood swamp that is never and I do mean never coonhunted. It's just a bit of a drive for me to go there at night and the other members don't coonhunt. However, they don't object to anyone else doing so.

Don't believe for a second all the BS about gators killing a dog every turnout. They can be a threat but you don't have to hunt those spots. Cars kill way more dogs across the country. We do have a bunch of snakes but a snake killing a dog isn't common either. I know guys that used to average having a dog bitten about once every couple of weeks or so. But, they hunted rice fields where there were lots of them. The downside??? It gets pretty hot in the summer. Skeeters are intense. I guess it's all what you get used to though.

Thanks for the input. We are thinking around Natchitoches area. I know hunting spots will be hard to find at first but we make friends easily

About halfway between Alexandria and Leesville. My deer lease is just out of Winnfield.

I hunted red bones for a couple years. My last one got hit by a car while I was deployed this winter. All I got now is my walker female. I am originally from watsontown, pa. There is good hunting down here and a good number of clubs within an hour or two of there.

That's good to hear about good hunting.
We have one redbone, one Black and Tan, and three treeing walkers.
And a border collie haha.
