If saving money is that important to you I'd believe I'd rather eat beans and corn bread for a week to save the money.

Theo your in a bad Area as to Cost of Collection and Storage . Its going to be expansive eather way ..

Collecting on a Dog takes a wee bit more than just Collecting .. You really need to know What to collect .. Prostate Fluids are very Corrosive to Sperm even over a short Period of a few hours .. You reall only want the Whitish Sperm Rich fraction ..

Watch this short Video I made and you can see when I stop Collecting, if I were to go longer I would be collecting more Prostate Fluid.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-VP...1cA&index=4

Now If you would like to Try .. I will work with you on the whole process Inc. the Setup and Freezing of you Dog..
Cost will be $165 and only if we get can get a good Shipment of your Dogs semen ..

You would Collect on your Dog and Chill his semen then Ship it Express to me and I will evaluate it then Process if its a good sample ... No cost to you if its a dud or a low sperm count with the exception of the Shipping / Supplies

#1) Order this Shipping Container .. Link - http://www.exodusbreeders.com/Produ...0000-1121791445

#2) Order this Chilled Semen Extender .. Link -
http://www.exodusbreeders.com/Produ...0001-1135024264

You Directions/Supplies for use will be included in the Kit / Extender ..

Its not expensive really Exp. Conpaired to a trip to the Vet. ..

If we Get a Good Collection and Freeze I can ship it to to your storage area of choice or I can Store it here for you and then Ship to where you need it ..

Looks like around $45 for all your supplies plus you need to add the Express Shipping cost to me.

The one big downside to collecting, chilling, shipping and then trying to freeze is that each cell has X amount of energy stored in the cell. The longer it goes unfrozen the more of the lifespan of the cell is used up. If you are going to attempt this. I highly recommend doing a counter test post thaw. The semen could very well freeze and thaw....but how long will it stay alive is the key. Dean and I are both accredited through Camelot Farms. There is also ICSB, MiniTube and Clone. All are working on extenders that will enable thawed semen to stay alive for up to 48 hours. I think the experiment you want to do is worthy...but treat it as an experiment and use it to gain knowledge via the countertesting. I have countertesting most of the top extenders and there are some I love and and I hate. Most all freezing extenders are only sold to a person who is accredited by their program. So unfortunately you can't just call up and order extender. I will be interested to hear how your test turns out.

Heres a Video I made of a Test at 64 hours Post Collection .. I did draw of only the Live Cells at first then Killed and Counted them at 54 million per ml . Then I stired the entire 64 hour old sample and shot this video so you could see the Dead cells along with the live .. As you can see its about 40% + or - living to dead cells..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1C8...cA&index=29

I don't know if you have ever tried Dr. Kenny Extender but once you add it to the Semen it and look thru the microscope the Cells are "LOCKED" with very little movement thus Retaining their Energy Much better ..

The main thing is to get you dilution down to around 50 million or lower per ML . .. Believe me I was running alot of test and Coming up real short on the Viable Lasting period .. So I made alot of Calls to find out why I wasn't get good results out past the 30 hour range but After talking to the Right person I now get 40 Hr.+ then Freeze and Very Good Thaw counts ..

Computerized Digital Sperm Count and Evaluation ..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhZCtEo5PDo

I was going to use a Sperm Particle Counter But found this Program to be Much better .. You can run it as a short Video Clip then Freeze the Frame then Count so that your only counting the Most Active and Viable Sperm .

The next program to this would be a Colorimetric Assay evaluation Program .. But then I would also need a $5,000 Microscope and I'm not going there !! lol

All you can do is keep in experimenting. I would suggest playing around with some other extenders besides a milk extender and see how you like those. MiniTube is available to people that have not been certified through them.

Steve I think you will find a hemacytometer MUCH more accurate. You have a very controlled amount of solution and pelleted cells and exactly 10ul to count the cells. How are you determining the amount of volume you are counting?

This is all Calibrated and preformed on the hemacytometer ..

I just adjust the contrast and you can see the Counting Grid Lines ..

These were counts within the 1/16 Grids .. With this I don't need to Overly delute the semen .. The above sample was deluted at 10X but it was a Billion to ML count .

I was accredited at Camelot Farms as well, and concur with your observation.
