Just Wondering

EVERY WONDER WHY WHEN A RED DOG SUCH AS JOHN HENRY OR BOO BOO START DOING ALOT OF WINNING RED DOG NATION GRABS AHOLD AND LAYS ALL THEIR HOPES ON JUST A COUPLE OF HOUNDS .

WHEN DO YALL THINK THE BREED WILL GET TO THE POINT WHERE THIS THE NORM NOT THE EXCEPTION . IT JUST SEEMS TO ME THAT THE OUTSTANDING COMP RED DOG IS AS UNCOMMON AS THOUGH OF US WHO HUNT THEM WILLING TO ADMIT THAT OUR BREED ISNT BUILT FOR THE QUICK STRIKE TREE GRABBING RULES WHICH RUN TODAYS COMP'S

NOW MY POINT: MAYBE INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CHANGE OUR BREED WE SHOULD TAKE CLOSER LOOK AT THE RULES OF NITE HUNTS AND MAKING CHANGES THEM .

Punish of runnin of game with a minus at reg. level
Make pulling up slick more painful by adding more minus
JUST EXAMPLES

WHY CHANGE A GOOD THING . I GAVE UP ON OTHER BREEDS BECAUSE OF ALL THEIR FAULTS SO WHY WOULD WE WANT TO BREED THEIR JUNK INTO OUR DOGS . SURE WE ALWAYS HAVE THE EXCEPTION LIKE LITTLE RED BUT MOST WILL NEVER OWN A DOG OF THAT CALIBER THEY ARE BORN NOT MADE !!!!!!!!

I

believe that its not that we grab ahold of them its just that brian and jeff were ambitious enough to put them out there to do the winning they have done...Redbones are redbones ..capable of winning against any breed. If we were living in a perfect world with perfect people the redbone hound would win their share..I lhave hunted redbones for 40 years have done some winning and have got beat.(by handlers and by dogs)...we live in an age there should be some great advancment in our breeding program due to ease of communication. best of luck with your hound Dave.

Thumbs up Thanks Danny

I think in some ways this post might have been misinterpreted. I was trying to say the redbones are more laid back and this doesnot always lead to successful competition hunting . I have hunted with 1 of the previously named dogs And it is an exceptional dog for any breed the point I was trying to make is lets not lose our breed just to get more competitive in the nite hunts . What is needed to win and win alot is in the breed now its our job to get it out so that a all grand ped is the norm

I would much rather see people breeding for redbones like John Henry and BooBoo who can win under the rules as is than people changing the rules to fit the way the majority of redbones are so they can win more. We need more BooBoos and John Henrys in this breed in my opinion....and that's only going to come from better, smarter and more selective breeding.

2 slicks and your out

I'm all for a new rule.
Any dog declared treed and determined to be treeing slick will be minus both track and tree points on the first offense and will be scratched on the second offense.

Now that may change some breeding plans in at least one other breed.
We can call it the "STIR" for Slick Treeing Idiot Rule !!

Kelly, I usually have 225 on each strike and tree...so that puts me out anyway if my dog trees slick if you can't get 3 walker guys to minus a tree now....how would you ever get em to do it with a rule like that.
