I train At least 12 dogs a year on birds. now it will be something new and I don't give up. I'm just an old fool. but I want a coon dog an bobcat dog. plus I love those water races. great bunch of guys. thanks wayne

JMO but if you already train 12 a year you probably have a pretty good system. Stick with what you know.

YES collar conditioning is a must if you want it to work. I also put the tracking collar on my pups when they see there 1st caged coon. I put the tracking collar on an hour before I show them the coon.

I never collar condition my dogs. But then again I never turn a dog loose without one on it. Not even the so called "BROKE" dogs.

I never have but i respect the guys that spend the time put a nice handle on their dogs. There are some very good videos on collar conditioning on Utube.

Tyler, I'm a little curious. What is the reason for this?

I have seen guys trun pups out with out tracking collars with old dogs night after night the pup is doing a good job. The 1st night it runs a deer they put a E collar and tracking collar on it. Then they give it a E collar correction on deer. The pup does not no why it got shocked and will not hunt with a tracking collar or a E collar on it. When you do collar conditioning right the dog think you or the off game are doing the correction NOT THE COLLAR. I put the collar on a hour before so it can get used to it.

I do collar conditioning to have as few as set back as I can and so the dog thinks I'm doing the correction not the collar

I understand your philosiphy behind it now. I was just curious. The only dogs I have had trouble with using an e-collar were dogs that were abused with an e-collar. Everyone thinks a e-collar is only good on the high setting. Very few dogs ever need a setting that high and that is where alot of the e-collar wise dogs come from. JMO I have used e-collars on bird dogs for years. You can learn alot when you are in the daylight and see all the effects of an e-collar. It would surprise alot of people.

collar conditions

Good to get a response on the collar. yea I like a control, like kennel, load up, here. On most pups I don't use it till there 6 month old, I let them be pups and socialize.Like I said I never worked with hounds. But I do know it got to have ticking on my dog . that is why I picked a blutick, gsp and germanwirehaired pointer thanks wayne
