What were his traits? Was he a track dog or tree dog? Is to much of it a bad thing? Was thinking about making a cross but it would have a lot of it but some of it is further back.

Jay, himself, was a very balanced track and tree dog. I breed a balanced female to him and I got balanced offspring.

I can't say what others may have gotten, but the far majority of the dogs I have hunted with were pretty fairly balanced coon hounds.

Thanks. Just wanting others options on things. Didnt coon hunt when he was around. I just know that he must have done something right.

He did do something right like leave his mark on the walker breed for many generations to come. One of the cornerstones of that breed. I would say his pups were more of a tree dog than track. Down here in Texas it gets hot and dry. They were bigger dogs and therefore they really didn't excel about 6 months out of the year. But, when the were on they were hard to beat. Not to mention, Frank Giddings, Sackett owner was a really good guy and strived to better the breed. I'd say he did!
