Bear hunters: Please read this bill and reply to this email (henri@mccleesconsulting.com) with your comments. Whatever you think, we want to hear it. Do you like the bill? Do you hate the bill? What concerns you about it? Please give us specific concerns and problems with the bill. Please mention to us whether you bear hunt in the east or western part of North Carolina.

Senator Harry Brown (Republican, District #6, Onslow and Jones Counties) says he filed it for his constituents in the Jones County Hunt Club. His reason was a straight forward statement that it was not fair that dog hunters can strike over bait, but still hunters cannot take over bait. We did not discuss it at any great length, but he said he filed it for hunters in his district. He said he had discussed it with Gordon Myers, Executive Director of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.

Obviously, the NC WRC has been discussing black bear management in detail. They want the power to regulate bear hunting. The bear stamp idea came from NC WRC. This bill would give the NC WRC the power to regulate bear hunting, including still hunting over bait.

If you are a bear hunter or have concerns about this bill for any reason, please let us hear from you as soon as possible. The bill will be read in on first reading tomorrow and assigned to a Senate Committee. We need to begin to prepare to fight this bill, but we need to hear from bear hunters! Thanks!
