Bench Shows

How do you get a dog ready for a bench show. Are there any ways you can train a dog to pose like they do in the pictures.

Pop bottle caps will get a dog up on its toes put them under the backs of their feet and work with the dog on the bench do this every time you work on training them on the bench it helps you can alson put pea gravel in their lot or if you keep them tied out put the gravel pretty thick every place their feet can touch it helps to tighten the muscles in their feet as for getting them to stand the way you want keep a treat in your hand let them have a little nip of it now and then and just keep working themit takes time when they do what you want give them the treat before you get them off the bench. Go watch some shows pay attention to the winners and the handelers of the winners and you'll pick up on some good points. Good luck

I usually try and take a pup I plan on

showing to as many local hunts as possible before they are 6months old and tie them out, walk them around and when folks are practicing before the show I put them up and pose them and get them use to people, dogs barking, people, etc.
I have a friend or someone that goes with me to put their hands on my dog like a judge would do.

When I work them at home, I usually turn the truck radio on for distraction and get my wife to walk around and around the bench. The more you expose them to before you go to their first official show, the better off you are.
By the time I hit a show at 6 months old, mine have been worked since they are 3 months old and are used to everything.

After the SC State show I would tell you not to enter any shows that have anything to do with Purina Pts.

Evidently those make people crazy.
