As a line, yes they are "open" trailers. Some more than others, some less, but one of the strenghts of this line of dogs is its ability to work a track, heads up, on the run, type trailing.
They are also known to be hard tireless hunters that have a lot of drive, desire, and heart. Not necessarily "stylish" tree dogs blowing the top out of a tree at 140 barks per minute, but they are known to be ACCURATE TREE DOGS that will be there whenenver you get there....if you want to run, or go to town and get a cup of coffee....they will be there when you get there.
Better than average HOUND mouths...never seen one that sounded like a cur dog. Most lean towards a long bawl locate and a shorter bawl/chop on the tree. I have seen several that NEVER chop.....but like anything else you have to take the bottom side of every pedigree into consideration.
Most of this line of dogs are very personable. They like people and seem to work to please. Known also for a stubborn streak, they are not the kind that you simply call in at the end of the evening.....
