burned up

i dont really get what some guys are saying when they say your burning up a pup by starting it to early

i always thought of it as if it has what it takes to be a COONDOG
it wont get "burnt up"
can some ome tell me exactly what they mean by burnt up

i start all my pups early and never had problems

I was like you when i was getting into coon hunting. The older hunters around hear would tell me your going to burn that pup up lay off it a little. I never had any problums intill about 5 years ago. I had a pup at 7 m/o would tree its own coon and do it right. So I hunted the hair off it at 9 m/o it got to where it didn't want to hunt at 11 m/o it wouldn't even look at a coon. A pup is a lot like a kid my kids will go with me every night all night for awhile then they want to stay home a few nights. They get tired if you keep pushing them they will quit.
