Tree dogs

I turned my blueticks loose this morning about daylight on the ranch and went inside to cook breakfast. I went outside about an hour later and they were Treed Deep! Across the Brazos River and the river is up today. I went to town and got back at 5:00 pm...they are still treed! Tonight at 9:45 they are still Treed! I know you think you have a treed dog but when is the last time you had one tree all day and night? I ve had only 5 in 30 years and I've really had some good ones and won a bunch of hunts!!!! Not many will tree that long! That's breeding at its finest....

If you didn't plan on going hunting with them, why turn them loose?

Ha...yea, that's good! I was going coon hunting this morning (we've had a run of great weather lately). I hunt here on my ranch that borders the river all the time. The river has been down low all winter but today they must be Generating Power upstream. That river is about a hundred yards wide and 12 ft deep white water rolling too. I'm not crossing it... But the dogs do sometimes. No road around to the other side for 25 miles in either direction. Even if you do drive the distance from the nearest road it's about 4 miles of walking to them. Not level ground. They'll come home...and they did at about 7 this morning. They were treed for about 24 hours. Tree dogs!

I grew up around dogs that ran out and would tree ... sometimes you might hear em' treed but have to catch the school bus or got to work ... or just didn't feel like messing with it .

My Granddad had a bitch that would tree at night and all day the next day until it got dark and then she might quit to go hunting again ... shame is , she'd tree like that on some of the slickest saplings you ever saw , lol ... or squirrel nests ... sometimes coon .

" Use it or lose it " is dang sure true though ... if there is a trait that don't get used it will be lost , treeing for very long is one of em' ... but dogs evolve to our needs , nobody needs em' to tree for long so what's the point ?

It's not always easy

When a dog does its job it's up to the dog owner/handler to do their part!!!!!

this was before tracking collars. i had two dogs that i was missing for 3 days, late in the evening on the 3rd day i could him them down in a gulf treed,i went to them and they had a coon up a tree.i got them and went to half climbing and half crawling out of the gulf,i couldnt lead the dogs out because it was to rough in there,so i just let them climb out of there and before i could get out of that gulf they treed another coon,it was the biggest coon that ive ever seen myself, thank goodness they treed it on top so i got the dogs and led them back to the truck.i really cant say for sure if them dogs were treed for 3 days, but they had barked theirself out and they wasnt what people now days would call hard treedogs.

Funny how a lot of people say a lot of tough things on here!!! I would have loved to see anyone go to these dogs across the river. You would have never been found or heard from again. As for walking 4 miles or possibly more one way to any dog I seriously doubt the tough talkers have ever done it. I have and I will try just about any way to avoid that again. As for what the were Treeing I do not know...my point in this is that 90% or more of the dogs out there won't tree that long, period. Half of them won't tree an hour. Really you don't need it or want it. If you CAN'T get to them for whatever reason in an hour then it's nice for them to have enough sense to come when called. If they don't....well that's the trainers fault! I'm just saying that dogs that will tree that long are born, not made...most will not!!!

BS

Who in their right mind would let dogs tree so long? I could see if you lost em or just coulnt get to em would be one thing.

And who knows if they were even on the same tree or what they were treein? Proves nothing.

Cody Jasper I have read your posts if you spent as much time doing your part for your dogs as you do spending time spewing on this computer it mite prove something.

Only thing it proves is your lack of common sense.

First of all you don't read very good! Look at the post before yours and you might get the picture ...but I doubt it! And yes, I does prove they have the genetics to stay there a bark that long. Obviously you have not got that at your house nor have ever seen it done. You obviously haven't been coon hunting very long either to think you can get to a dog a dog EVERy time. If you do you and anybody else are living in fantasy land. You talk about me on the computer....good lord with your 2000 plus posts on here. What a jack ass!

Had a nice female years ago and took and got her bred, after she went out I took her hunting up Johnson holler that borders the screaming woods, she struck and ran up the holler and I went after her but couldn't keep up. Was depress and didn't hunt for a while and finally got a dog 4 months later. Against better judgement I went up Johnson holler again. You guessed it up that holler he went. I decided right there I aint loosing another one so I lit out in a dead run. I ran and ran up into the Screaming woods. Finally I heard him treed. The closer I got I could hear other dogs treed with him, I kept going just as hard as I could. When I got there he was treed and so was my female and 6 little puppies and all of them was blowing the top out of it.

Started posting in 2004. I wrote the UEB&FA article for Full cry for two years so used the message for for article info. I also have over 600 tree and hunting pics I post for others to see unlike the computer coonhunters I show the real thing. I also research coondog pedigrees and everybody asks for pedigrees I post em. I have entered close to 750 English pedigrees on coondogpedigree.com go check it out.

I will be 61 in March I follow the dogs bet you cant keep up with me. Been followin the dogs since I was 12 with my grampa so I guess that makes it 48 years so whats your excuse.

I read just fine I just know a lot of bull when I see it. You are welcome to come to NY to hunt these hills if you think you can handle the cold. Oh but you will have to walk to the dogs no waitin till the next day cause I skin and sell the furs dont wanna miss out. LOL!

You could not have walked to these I promise! All my hunting here is done on foot...I've walked many a mile to many of dogs in my 30 years of hunting and will continue it that way. As for the bull in this post please point it out. These are facts... Like it or not mr 2700 posts that doesn't like what I say.

Be all honest I can't tell you mine will tree for 2 or 3 days. I can't tell you all mine will come off tree when called. But I can tell you if I cut mine and they tree, I'm spending the next 6 hours trying to get to em, not going to town. Around my part of the country we brag on our dogs for treeing and having the grease. So I guess in all reality on top of bragging on em for trreeing: for a day I guess the truth also is they left the tree before you got to em. For every action theres a reaction. I don't ever brag on a dog, for just that reason they are DOGS.
