UKC Gr.Nite Champions Open hunts

Question are there many Gr. Nites being hunted in the local hunts now days? Had a guy talking about this, said be nice if they could set up a program where you can make 2 time Gr.Nite etc. on up to say 5 time grand if want to? wouldn't that draw more to the hunts?? And say alot for a Gr. Nite Champion ? just throwing it out there to see if anyone else has thought of this.

Friend i was talking to, also said be nice if they would have some kind of handy cap on dogs that were say 2 or 3 time Gr. Nites and so on, when competing with 1st. time gr.Nites but don't see that working out but sure would seperate them from the rest if started say with a 50 to 100 in the hole and win your cast 5 in a row? but would be nice to be able to see gr.Nites go further for when Gr.Nite your done, unless you want to HTX which is a good thing to prove a dog will hunt alone, maybe to Grand out they should make a change stating that you must have 1 HTX to finish Gr. Nite, That would probably help the HTX programs to grow in different areas of the country also? And all this talk about Gr.Nites that can't tree there own coon fly out the window LOL. Just rambling on

Most are ready to move on to the next project after they get one Granded. That's why they don't get hunted as much, it's like been there, done that, now we move on.

I think that's a great idea! Why not kick in a little extra cash as another incentive! Leave the amount up to the MOH or the guys huntin their Grand Nights! Maybe call it a Grand Night challenge hunt.

State Races for Gr Nite Champions.... $50 performance fee to nominate Gr Nite Ch for state race for the year. Gr Nite Ch entry fee $5 more than reg or nite ch entry fee. Have top 16 in each state race hunt runoff for state money and the final four dogs from each state runoff advance to a championship hunt. JMO

Jesse, they have all kinds of choices. Breed Days, sectionals, the World Hunt, Slams, HTX, PKC..........if you are bound to find an excuse to leave them home, you will find one just as you will always hunt them if you want to.

Another point of view... Hound makes grand nite at early age, Owner studs him out "made grand nite a 2 years of age" Well that is impressive everyone signs up for a pup. Can that grand nite still do it when he/her is 5 years old, 7, 8 years old ? Never know wasn't hunted just pimped out. It would be more impressive for a 8 year old earning his/her 5 x grand nite title. That stud proved he was a coondog from a early stage in life to a older stage in life. Now sure there is 8 year olds doing fine I used to feed one, But how many you see that are slowed down, wallowing tracks ..... True that comes with old age, But a Grandnite male or female that was Genetically healthier, retained skills in all stages of life would be more impressive to me and had the titles to back it up.

my $.02 worth

And some guys judge the whole country based on their own little corner of the world..
There are 2 Pkc. clubs within 150 miles of me. and 5 UKC. clubs. Once a local dog is granded out he is pretty much useless and often the handler dissapears from the local hunts until he gets another dog ready. By not haveing a program that attracts Grands UKC. and the local clubs both miss out on revenue and attendance at their local club events. Let the grands hunt for some Money and you would see attendence increase across the board. The registered dogs would get pushed harder because the title would allow them to compete for the cash and the value of a finished dog would increase because they would be in demand.

State race just for Grand Nites. The ending prize will have to be worthwhile or we'll be back in the same place as we started.

That's true, I just brought this up to see response, plus would help local hunts on dogs drawn and also give a chance for some to move there hound up in UKC title be nice to have the first 2 or 3 time Gr.Nite champion around, plus may show what they are made of? But thanks guys for all the response, maybe UKC will get on board to it?Just something to think about, typing out loud LOL.

John your right some don't have the same access to some other Kc's just thought it might help out with UKC attendance and be able to go further than Gr.Nite, but don't believe would even have to compete for cash, just the titles in UKC has been enough, but Money would be nice for us poor boys LOL. Thought it might appeal to the breeders also?? And at this level would not need non hunting judges, make it hunting judges for if they got this far, they all know the rules jmo

Hey, I'm not against any of this. Why would anyone be against trying a new event or format? I just have doubts that it will ever increase participation by the GrNts. I say this based on the fact that UKC has come out with an incredibly successful PRP program, Slam events, HTX, all of this geared directly at bringing in more GrNts to the hunts and here you all are, trying to come up with still another. Good luck. The guys with GrNts to hunt have mostly moved on to the next project and THAT is why they aren't showing up.

I just threw this out here to get some thoughts on the subject, feel the reason Gr.Nites have moved on is there is no more room to improve just a thought, or they reached there goal as a breeder? And also alot of locals may have Gr.Nites and maybe can't campaign them as some can and travel to all the larger hunts Etc. But do think the HTX on any hound is a good thing, but not many in some areas, don't really care to drive 1.50 to 2 hr's to one, but thats me jmo. but it is nice to see it on a hounds Ped..

What about an added title such as another registry is doing.
Supreme Grand Nite Champion ?

Just as with registered or Nite champions, Compete against other Grand Nites in any Licensed UKC event and when you have either 3 wins or 5 wins you have another title

Just a thought
