UKC Events who has read this?

What kind of paper work will we have to show when we go to an event such as the Grand And the Winter Classic this year and local hunts?

Section 4. Required Inoculations. All dogs six months
of age or older must have inoculations for Rabies,
Canine Distemper and Canine Parvovirus to be present
on the grounds of any UKC event or to be eligible to
compete at UKC events. Dogs under six months of age
present on the grounds of any UKC event must have
current inoculations for Canine Distemper and Canine
Parvovirus. Any dog that is known to have been in
contact with a canine communicable disease within thirty days prior to the event may not be on the
grounds of a UKC event. Failure to comply will result

there is no way to show proof of the parvo and parainfluenza sometimes. I give them to my dogs myself so all i have for proof is what i have written down and anyone can do that

if you keep the stickers off the bottle with the date of injection, that should work.

Where did you find that because I think it's an all-breed event rule? Not a coonhound event rule.

I know what you're saying Cynthia. There really isn't a difference as far as it being good common sense for anyone that has dogs. But we have different rulebooks for the different divisions here at UKC and that happens to be in our Dog Events rules but not in our Hunting Programs rules.

My question is why would any responsible hound owner NOT vaccinate?

My word! That's like a no brainer!

Because there will be irresponsible dog owners at these events, that is a no brainer too.
I think the problem lies where some of us vaccinate our own dogs. In NC, a vet has to vaccinate for rabies, no problem there and verification of vaccination is easy, you get a tag and a slip of paper.
These 5 and 7 ways that we give our dogs is where the problem lies. What do I have to show to prove the dog is vaccinated? The empty viles? The receipt from where I bought them? None of this is actual proof that my dog has been vaccinated.
Documentation from the vet would be proof but we can do these ourself for a fraction of the cost. Just proving it has been done is the problem.

Can you get a rabies in NC without being a vet? I know that dude at the trade lot in Marion got himself into some trouble over rabies vaccines but I do not remember exactly what it was. Even if you can get the shot I think it has to be administered by a vet for the paperwork to be valid. Your dog may be vaccinated against the disease itself but should he bite someone you would probably still have problems with a rabies you gave your dog yourself.

You pretty much nailed it. Its easy to order the vaccine but its not valid without the vets papers

In order to buy a dog license (mandatory) in Michigan I have to have the rabies shot given by a vet . You can & I have bought rabies on-line and given myself if something was going around and I wanted a little extra peace of mind . Everything else I do myself and don't have paperwork for .
End of the day our hounds are probably exposed to way more then we ever realize . Besides if a person isn't honest how do you know the health certificate in their hand belongs to the dog on the leash other than breed and sex ?
I take care of mine and hope you do yours .

So you "take" your hounds there? That is still different than doing it yourself and may well be recognized as good as if a vet does it since you are saying you take your hounds there. Do you give the shot yourself while someone at animal control watches or what? Take me through the process because I am curious please.

It's called a rabies clinic. If you know anything about dogs, you most certainly have heard of one of these. If your dogs got a rabies shot, you've got a way to prove it!

I know what a rabies clinic is sir that is where I get all of mine done at. If you will read all the posts instead of jumping to conclusions you will see why I was asking this gentleman further questions about taking his dogs to animal control.
The way he is describing it, it is not a rabies clinic. He is describing it as just going by the animal control any time you want to get a shot. A rabies clinic requires planning and coordination, not just showing up any day of the week and getting a shot. EVERY rabies clinic I have went to have been done by a licensed vet and as far as I know, our animal control office is not staffed by a licensed vet and that is why I was wanting to know more about the shots he gets at animal control!

Mcdowell county absolutely, does not do this! I do not know how you got a rabies shot at your local animal control
in NC but you will not get one here. Just for the record I am not doubting you did, because we are always behind times here!
