I have a 10 yr old nitech gyp i wanted to breed. And was looking at some studs around she has had 2 litters of pups. What you guys think

As long as shes in good health and taken good care of she should be fine. We had a guy bring an 11 year old bear female and she had 8 healthy pups and raised them all. With older females it is good if they are in good shape because it takes alot out of a female and as long as they are in good shape and healthy she should be fine.

She gets hunted a minimum of 3 nights a week. She acts if she is 2. Just dont want to hurt her. I really want pups out of her but im affraid they wont sell or something since she is no big name dog. Being 18 i have never bred a gyp until now if i do.

you should buy a nice breed pup train with your female. I just guessing she must be good one. Or you would not consider breeding her. some of these guys on this internet has spent a lot time and money that will put you in the winners circle... call or what you need to do but there is sure enough some good dogs out there... I would try with a female make a coondog out out her when she turns 3 pick a good producing stud. famliy breeding seems to work. BEST WAY TO SPEND THEIR MONEY AND GET YOU A NICE DOG!! GOOD HOUND COMES WITH TIME AND YOU BEING SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW WHEN YOU PICK THE RIGHT ONE. POOR MANS WAYS TO PACK A COONDOG TO COMPETE WITH THE MAN WITH MONEY.

THERES a nice rat attack stud in virgina, pups can be hard to move if not bred to real popular stud dog. they can get expensive if you can't sell and have to feed, give shots and keep wormed over extended period of time. it'll have to be your call, whether you want to carry on her blood or not.
how is she bred, tar heel nitro or and what on bottom side?
might have a x jr male you can breed to, placed high at ao, for pup or pups, ever how you would like to do it. nitro females seem to cross real good on him.

i just raised a litter of pups from a 10 1/2 ol female she had 5 pups and raised 4,she did have some trouble having the last pup it took about 4 hrs. for her to have it.the pup died the next day.but i wanted another pup from her and took the chance.....

Thanks guys I'm really considering it because she impresses me a lot! But I would not want to do anything to hurt her. That's is my only concern.. Anyone know of some good studs?

as for me, i have only females and i don't care to breed any of them. i'm not a breeder and i'm not interested in looking for the right stud. i'm a hunter. i leave the breeding to the folks that spend their lives working on their program. there is always someone with a litter of puppies or whatever you want. i don't care to mess with a bunch of puppies and trying to sale them to the public. i'd rather spend my time in the woods. i've got a pup now that 5 months old. she's trying to drive me crazy. she'll be living full time outside in a few days too.

Consider breedin to trouble. Hes a reproducer and hes right up the road. Not sure what your gyp is out of but im sure david could give you some pointers.

Not saying one way or the other, but this happened to me. I had an eight year old female, that I was still hunting she was not as quick as a young dog but still treed some coons. I payed the vet to check her out and had a brucellosis test done on her and asked him if he thought she was in good enough shape and he said yes. I found a nice stud about an hour from the house and made two trips to his house. She did good for the whole pregnancy , but had complications with the birth. She did not have the pups on due date it was on a week end so I decided to wait till Monday to take her back to the vet. He said she had a pup stuck just at the opening and he said it was dead. He give me several options but said she had been in labor for a while and he could take the rest of the pups surgically and the cost would be around $500 and if there was complications it would cost more. He said he thought the other pups were dead also. So I asked what were my other options. He said he would dislodge the dead pup and give her a shot to cause her to go back into labor. I did not have the money saved up for the surgery and am not sure I would have wanted to pay that much for dead pups. He pulled the pup out and it had already started decomposing and he said he was sure the other pups were dead and if we did not get them out she would die. Lets just say it cost me a lot of money to breed this dog and ended up not getting any pups and almost loosing my female.

i think dennisfoster had the best advice. you've already got a great pup trainer. why take a chance on her health when you can get a fine puppy for a few hundred and you still have a coon dog. also, ask yourself the question, if the bitch does have complications, can you afford to provide needed medical care. it would be terrible to see the dog that counts on your leadership, the dog that agreed to do your bidding suffer and die because you wanted pups but weren't prepared to care for your loyal dog after she gets into trouble doing what you asked her to do.
