There's a setting that makes the screen zoom out to include all collars in the dog list, or the last point they were picked up. I noticed mine would zoom out 7-8 miles when I hunted around home, but when I went out of state it was zooming out 165 miles.
Don't have mine in front of me, but in one of the setup options, you have the option to "zoom to dogs" or something similar. If you turn this off, your screen should stay where you set it with the manual zoom.
