Breeding Question?

I'm curious on the success people have had on making a half brother/half sister cross?

As well as a Uncle/Niece cross?

Thanks!!

My buddy is planning on making a half brother/half sister cross, both share the same sire. I suggested he make the cross but he was afraid their breeding may be to close!!!

Down the road if everything works out I'm planning on making a Uncle/Niece cross, it's a ways from happening but just wanted to get opinions and info from people who have made these type of crosses before.

As long as the sir and dam don't have heavy faults it shouldn't hurt

ive had good and bad results w all the above........even made a full brother sister cross once (same parents/different litters)

inbreeding and linebreeding can only expose whats there anyway. it gets a bad rap sometimes because some of that is hidden and would have stayed hidden if not crossed close.........but it cant invent new. mutations (that CAN invent new traits) are just as likely to pop up in total outcrosses as full out inbreeding.....

i will note however that sometimes those mutations are hidden for generations and never seen till inbreeding occurs...if there resessive as most mutations are......good or bad.

I've made the same half brother/sister cross twice and had planned on doing it a third time but had to have the female fixed.. Loved the pups out of both litters and had people in line for the third...

exactly how i thought it would

we had some realy nice pups, and some that werent going to make the grade......

sadly, like almost all the pups from that sire,,,,,,,,,,most ended up getting hit on the hiway before they ever finished training..

I know where 2 still are out of 8, and would buy one male in a heartbeat if i was still hunting or breeding.

Breeding to close will result in smokey coloration (grey) in the tan areas of walker dogs. Not allways but sometimes.

I will give you my opinion in a few months. Got a pup that is double grandson to Big Dollar Red. Red made it to the world hunt this year at age nine. I've heard some really good hounds come out of half-siblings.

I have seen good results with both, but I should also qualify that statement with some more information.

Those crosses that resulted in desired offspring were made on good selection of specific traits towards a specific goal.

Never line breed just for the sake of the pedigree.

never make any cross just because of the pedigree.

Thanks Tubz for asking this question.I'm just wondering because I just cant really find anything that satisfies me to breed to Daisy.I've hunted with alot of nice dogs, call me picky if you want, they just have imperfections that I just dont want in my line.Im going to breed Jakey to Daisy as soon as she comes in heat.Hopefully the cross will pay off.

if 2 dogs have the traits i want it don't matter what thier relationship is.
if you breed related dogs and get idiots its not because the parents were "too close" its because one or both of the parents are idiots too.
