shooting coon

what do all of you use to shoot your coon with. Guns and ammo is what i am wondering. I use a ruger 10/22 and buy what ever is cheap. but have had some big coon that seem to take a couple to put them down.

About anywhere in one eye or between them if you see two. I use a cheap 22 on a pattern the chinese stole from Browning. I steady it on a stick or another tree. My secret is a $300 deer rifle scope my son gave me when he bought a better one.

If you want to kill them dead, you need to use better ammo. Get some Federal long range 22 ammo with the 40 grain bullet. This ammo has more power( long range ) and will kill a coon dead if you hit him in the head. It is better no matter where you hit them.

I learned about this ammo from a local slaughter shop. He said it would drop them in their tracks. This ammo is not real common; but, you can find it at a good gun shop. I bought a couple of bricks when I found it. It comes in a light blue box.

When I lived in Wisconsin I used a Glenfeild model 60 with Remington Viper shells. Since I moved to Ohio I use a Stevens model 15 and Remington or CCI shorts.

Some Wis. monsters it would have been handy to have had a 22 mag.

I have a Savage single shot with a Mueller 2-7x with lighted red dot center of the cross hairs. The best ammo by far are the CCI SGB. It has a flat solid nosed 40 gr lead that shoots at the same velocity of the Mini-Maxs. They hit hard, and are best at killing big coon.

If you are selling pelts, forget the hollow points! They are not worth the damage and loss of dollars!

They can make a mess of a coon if you don't get him the first time though.

10/22

Are we talking about what we use during kill season? Cause I use what ever, 20 gage, 9mm, 22. It depends if I had to throw it because of the boys in blue but out of kill season my buddy uses a ruger 10/22 and has it modified to shoot longs and it is quiter than twig snapping, all you hear is the bullit hitting the coon or the neighbors shed, just depends what ur aiming at lol. CB's are the way to go though because it just packs enough punch to knock em out....

Ruger 10/22 and remington vipers. Hollow points just piss them off here.

Remington Yellow Jackets pack a real punch, but they are a little more pricey.
