in my experience
they were probably on a bear, the bears that my dogs have struck down low go staight up the branche through the thickest nastiest part of woods. through laurel thickets and briars and such. when ive followed my dogs that way, it gets rough, thats what bears like to run through. the hollow i hunt, ive been alot, and seen new area when they run that bear. when a bear gets tired of running from 1 or 2 dogs, thay might stop and rest, and the dogs just booger bark at them, and theyll take off again. deers dont run through laurel thickets like that, theyll more or less run the ridges, dogs coming in and out of hearing. i had trouble last year with them.
