light

I have an old bright eyes with a wheat head that I'm wanting to use since my LED light doesn't cut it when it comes to shinen tops of trees my question is the light still had Alittle energy in it but I got it on a trickle charger been on it for about three hours or so if the batt. In it wasn't hold a charge it wouldn't of had eny power at all would it or will it just not fully charge?

The reason I'm asken when i unplug it from the charger and turn the light on the head barely lights up like it hasn't charged eny but if I plug it up it has a lot of light.
