OT Mechanic question

I have a 1999 S-10 PU-LS-4.3 Auto-Loaded

I have had a intermitten problem with fuel pump .
This past spring I had a load on it and pump failed .Fooled around with it a bit and it started.
About one month later had a load on it again.Failed to start.I bounced it a bit and it started up on next try.
Went all summer with no further problems.
Was using it yesterday around the yard.Last try and pump not running .
I switched relay box fuses around and have ruled that out.
there is pressure showing on Oil guage.

I have heard there is a hot wire near the drivers side under the hood you can by pass everything to engage the pump.
Does anyone know where it is at?Describe it where to find it to me .
Is there any place failures are common or am I wasting my time and just need to go ahead and replace the pump?

Can't get under it with out jacking it up to get to top of tank but from what I can see the ground for the tank is good and the wiring looks solid.

Check connector and terminals for burnt spots or loose pin fit. Most fuel pumps come with a new pig tail harness. That can cause your problem. Also seen faulty fuel pumps.

Yes, check your power wires that plug into the pump.....I replaced the fuel pump on my 99 S-10 4 times before I realised the lead wires had melted. Much easier to take the 4 bolts out of the bed and then remove the gas cap and unscrew the filler neck screws and unplug the tail light plug and lift bed toward the rear of the truck. (2 people)... that should have the high PSI pump putting out somewhere between 50-60 PSI.

Truck started again and while it was running I took it to my brother-in -laws so I would have help lifting the bed. I pulled the bed off today .Decided it was easier than working under the bed and dropping the tank.
There were 4 bolts on each side of the bed and I snapped one off.Oh well ,I guess 3 will still hold it on the one side.
It wouldn't start again when I went to move the truck out of the way.
All the wiring looks real good.
I am going to go ahead and get a pump .Locally they are 240 up to 380.Found some on line a little cheaper and will be sending for one today....Thanks for the replies!

UPDATE....
I found a pump on line for about 1/4 of local prices.
Before ordering it I tested all the lines at the pump for shorts and feed.Every thing checked out and truck still did not start so I ordered the pump.
Installed it and pump would not pump.Darn!
Pulled all the wires I spliced.Retested the curcuits at the wire ends and now it showed a bad ground.
I soldered all the wire splices the second time and heat sealed them back on the new pump connector wiring.I have never trusted those little red wiring splice connectors anyways.
I then spliced a new wire into the new wiring harness ground and grounded my pump directly to the frame .
We Got POWER!
